Not to sound too surprised (or totally out of the P bass loop), but there isn't a sunburst Road Worn P with a rosewood board?!? Seriously? I honestly find that quite surprising, as that is what I would consider the classic P bass look (with tort guard and flats, of course). Sounds like something for Summer NAMM!

I've been posting about that for years. At least ever since I got my own Road worn Jazz in 2010. I'd really like a 60's Road worn P-Bass to happen. But Fender has been scaling back the number of Road worn guitar models they've been offering over the past couple of years. And that leaves me less than optimistic about them expanding the Road worn bass line.

As for the range of the bass offerings? IIRC, Fender may have introduced the Road Worn line around 2007. And since that time they have only offered two models in two different finishes: a 50's P-Bass in 2TSB or Fiesta red, and a 60's Jazz bass, in either 3TSB or Fiesta red.

Being as the five string Precision only properly launched in about 2008/9, a Road Worn model would have to be a new bass that they'd kicked around a car park for a few days.

Seems you're thinking too much inside the box! A Road Worn five string P-bass would not have to be connected to any previous Fender P5 -- it would be for five string players (like me) who want a five string Fender with the mojo of a 50's or 60's four string -- simple as that.


I once owned a beautifully mojo'd 1964 Fender Precision, 12/64 on the neck stamp. I now play five exclusively (so I sold the '64 to a friend), but I want similar mojo in a Fender-style five string. As it happens I'm having a local luthier build me one. The biggest challenge is finding five string parts that match the vintage four string counterparts (nickel-plated tuners and bridge, for example). Because of this mine won't be exact, but it'll be reasonably close, and I'm paying a small fraction of Fender CS prices.

That sounds like a lovely build project - Looking forward to seeing that one.

What's really nice about the classic series is that if you don't like the roadworn look you can buy the same bass for less bucks with a pristine poly finish.
The Fender 50's series is still available.
I've got one in honey blonde. Same accoutrements as the roadworn, but better looking

Fender do the 60's Jazz Bass Lacquer, which I'm led to believe is a non-worn Roadworn - Probably the ones that slip past the vandals while they're on lunch breaks down in Mexico.
