Rob Allen Mouse ... 6 String 24 frets ... can it be done?

Haven't even seen a five-string Mouse yet, although one would be cool. It's not easy to access the upper fretlines of the Mouse as is and there's only 18 of them, so I doubt adding more further down the body would be useful unless you play with thumb position (even then with the 30" scale they'd be tough to play in tune).

Rob does 6 string MB2s. I believe one of the guys on this board has talked to him about a 5 string mouse and the answer was the tooling costs would make it more expensive thane it's worth (unless of course you have unlimited funds), so I'm sure the same would go for a six.

I was talking to Rob about a Mouse 5 string, but apparently, a 32" scale MB2 5 string would have the same effect. The tooling costs might get ya, although, this may not be an issue if you have a lot of money burning a hole in your pocket. If you're looking for a fretless, finding a suitable f string would be a pain.

I'm currently in the process of an XL scale 6. I got quoted, so I'll start it soon when the funds are up.

I played a 6-string Rob Allen MB2 at bass NW about a year ago. It was a really nice! But the guys at BassNW said that Rob doesn't really like to build 6-strings so he charges a lot extra and only does them on a loose timeframe.

But aside from that, check out the stuff from Veillette. They are very good with custom orders, and I'm sure a 6-string acoustic/hollowbody of some kind would be no problem.

I love my Kinal(s), but I would still like to have a 6-string full hollowbody bass with a more closed top design too. Veillette would be my #1 choice right now :smug:

I don't know if I get special treatment but I wasn't quoted an outrageous price for the base cost of a 6 string. Of course my outrageous options made the price a tiny bit more. :p My timeframe wasn't very long either.

Absolutely not :p

I actually just got back from playing a short solo set with this bass acoustically (I had my amp there, but decided not to plug in). It was a small, house get together with maybe 15 people in the room, and with everyone quietly listening it worked out fine. But with any kind of ambient noise or another instrument, it wouldn't be able to keep up without drastically altering my playing style.

Honestly though, my 4-string fretless Kompact is louder than this one even though it's significantly smaller. It's interesting :bassist:
