Robot Factory Pulse Synth Review

The enveloped speed thing is much more responsive now. Yay!
Link Removed
I was playing random notes and holding them just so demo the enveloped speed.

There's also a tone control (like the one on a bass), but I keep it almost full-on, because I think it gets to "nice" when you turn it down.

There's also a toggle for enveloped-speed now.

There's this nice "manual" that describes all the controls and what they do and how they work together, and also has helpful "Tips for Tweakers." Maybe Mario wouldn't mind posting it? I think that explains the pedal perfectly.

Anyway, Robot Factory has can add one more to its growing list of satisfied customers.

Glad to hear you are happy 'Onion.........

This is a text version of the manual.....I will html it proper one of these days............but for now:

Controls: _
PULSE W. – Controls how wide the ‘on’ cycle of the output wave is with or without modulation.

SHIFT– Sets the ‘OFF’ value with modulation. Contributes to ‘PW’ with no modulation.

SPEED– LFO pulse width modulation. Start slow for better enveloped LFO speed sweeps

DEPTH– Controls how far the modulation will sweep the wave shape. CCWise will not sweep.

ENVELOPE– Adjusts how much the input signals amplitude will affect LFO speed. CCW to disengage.

TONE– LP filter. Counter Clock Wise to cut high frequencies. (hashy upper orders, etc........)

VOLUME– Master Volume. Large available gain, start low!!!

Tips for tweekers:

*PW knob will control the WIDEST (or deepest / fullest sounding) pulse width when using modulation.

*SHIFT will limit the NARROWEST width during modulation.

*DEPTH sets how much narrower the wave will get from the MAX setting of ‘PW’ under modulation.

*PW, SHIFT,& DEPTH all full up will provide the deepest sweeping effect. I recommend starting with
this and rolling back one at a time to get a grip on how they effect the wave shaping.

*With a strong pick attack, or a strummed chord (when SENSE is above 10:00 or so) the SPEED will
Start at max, and taper down to wherever the SPEED control is set.

*For cleaner tracking, use bridge pickups and roll back the guitar’s tone control.

*The SHIFT knob allows for settings where at very fast speeds, modulation is not obvious or even
audible. When used with the SENSE up a bit, you can get an effect where there is little or no modulation until the note decays to a lower point.

*With SENSE and DEPTH both full down (counter clock wise) you have a square-wave / pulse-wave distortion / fuzz. The thinner the pulse, the thinner and more nasal the output sounds.

(did you get all that?.............)

Would this need be placed first in the chain before everything else.....or before overdrives and fuzz....or could it be placed after overdrive and fuzz and with modulation?

BTW - I am mainly a guitarist though I would also be using this with a passive bass.

If you want it to track properly, it needs a clean signal to work with. If you don't want it to track properly you can stick it anywhere. :)

Bear in mind that the Pulse Synth completely replaces your guitar signal with its pulse wave, so you won't actually hear anything you've got in the chain before the pulse synth anyway.

I enjoy having a light overdrive before the pulse-synth for tracking reasons. It smooths the attack a bit.

Bit late but (my brain works best given a week or so to consider stuff!) I just realised I had a Bass Micro Synth in my chain before the Pulse Synth. A little bit of attack delay from the BMS and, naturally, attack 'squelch' eradicated.

I knew I'd find a use for that slider eventually! :D
