rock is dying ??

i have noticed kids growing up in the 80s remember the glam, metal and hard rock bands that weere around then and are general rock fans

i have noticed that kids growing up in the 90s tend to raid there parents record collection and enjoy some of that classic old school rock but tend to be more into the grungy type stuff and indy type stuff that sprung up post grunge

i have noticed, my kids who have grown up in the 00s are now on itunes listening to mostly modern dance tracks and have no interest to listen to any of my rock albums or even going through my record collection for a look, its all what someone else has on their ipod at school then they must have it....if i have a led zep DVD on their eyes glaze over and they go back into their bedrooms and plug their eye phones on and listen to LMFAO type stuff...

am i seeing evolution here?

yup its all about dubstep, trashy club rap (lil wayne and stuff), and lady gaga. Bass guitar has been substituted with dub wobbles and garageband

I have the opposite observation. My 11-year-old and his friends HATE the new dribble.

About 3 months ago, my kid and two of his friends were on the piano playing "I Am the Walrus".

Yesterday, my son and another friend we jamming along to Led Zeppelin (drums and bass).

Of course, I have had an influence over my sons musical taste - his favorite bassist is Paul Chambers.

I'll know more in 15 years.

I'd say it's about half and half, I'm sixteen and 80% of my friends are into hard rock metal and stuff. Metalcore is really popular in my school too. I'd have to say its about 40% real music 60% hiphop/rap. It's sad, but better than most high schools. I have teachers that compliment me and my "group"s band shirts almost daily.

Rock is here to stay. We might hear more electronic type stuff on the radio (nothing wrong with that) but it seems to me that the indie rock bands are looking more and more to the vintage stuff for inspiration.

I think many would say it's been dying for years. I'll tell you what though, kids are still loving acts like the Foo Fighters and Kings of Leon. So maybe we're just in a little dry spell. Bands are indeed still popular though.

I think it was said, mainstream rock is dying in the US. I think thats why Dave Grohl said what he said at the grammys. If you look at the big rock concerts of the year its always a older band. I think Van Halen will be the big one this year, Stones, Aerosmith and others in years past. Rember when Ozzfest and Lollapolooza rocked the year. When was the last time a Rock/Hard Rock band ruled the world? Pearl Jam? Nirvana? GnR? Motely Crue? If you look every year the biggest baddest show's of the year are normaly played in the UK or somewhere. I guess thats why the US has Pop History???
