I have been in live musical performances for more than a Decade now, also in radio. I am new to the guitar and have come to it later in life. Right now is an exciting time for anyone getting into playing the guitar. I have wanted to play all my life, but lacked the dedication to get over the beginner hump. (Sore fingers, boring practice, sounding like snot) now there are two learning tools on the Market, I own them both. Rocksmith 2014 and Band Fuse. After playing RockSmith for an hour a day for 60 days, it has gotten me over the hump. The software has great learning tools. In my preference though Band Fuse is a much more complete learning tool. I like the structured learning path of "tours" and the lesson in my opinion are much clearer. Also it teaches you using real world Tablature. So if you are making the decision between the two Choose Band Fuse first, but get Rocksmith if you can.Second Post in answer to a question of why I like Band Fuse better.Band Fuse uses real scrolling Tablature. For me at least with Tour mode, there is a directed play path of songs and challenges. The learning tutorials and documentaries are in my opinion better. I smoke between sets and I like to hear from the Lead from Social Distortion or Five Finger Death Punch. It's neat to learn their history, tips and tricks! In Rocksmith, I willed my self to play an hour everyday, with Band Fuse I can't wait to play it. Again different strokes for different folks, but I feel that Band fuse is preparing me to play without the training wheels!
I recommend the songsterr app for people who like these games as well.
I ordered Rocksmith yesterday and after reading the comments here I'm really looking forward to getting it.
I decided to get it because I want something that will help motivate me to practice. I've started and stopped learning the bass a couple of times in the past but decided 2014 is my year. Gotta do it before I get too old.![]()
If you get the songsterr app for your phone it's a one time fee.
I use it it on my android tablet, it is damn good. I like one called tabs by guitar tabs.com, very convenient.
So I've had a chance to have some time with bandfuse and I really like it. I'm still curious about rocksmith and I'm hoping that bandfuse's dlc will be as big someday. The one thing I'm not too big on is the fact that some of the higher difficulty levels are locked. Also, I find I'm playing a lot of the songs a lot. It's quite repetitive. But then again, I guess that's what practice is, repetitive. I hope you can download other effects end amps as well eventually. I'd really dig some more amp sims. Songs of course too but I know they'll come eventually. Great game.
I don't think the difficulties are locked. I noticed some of the songs have only 3 difficulties because the bass isn't that complex.
If you own the original RS, you can import its songs for another $10 import fee. In theory this gives you re-mastered versions, but I hated the fee anyway.
But it is more of the same- mostly metal songs from groups I don't like. I did it anyway, as there are several I do like, and it was cheaper than the $3 DLC prices.
Looking at my mp3 playlists, I see 200+ 80's rock and 250+ recent country songs they are missing...
Thats exactly correct. When I first got the game I, too, was wondering how to unlock the difficulties for bass and found out from the game designers that some of the bass lines were difficult to split up into 5 separate difficulty levels so they only created 3 different levels.
Gregmon - in terms of not wanting to spend bucks for Rocksmith (which I totally understand), I got mine for $40 on sale at Best Buy after Christmas and I'm sure you will be able to get a hold of one even cheaper sometime soon.
So I put my money where my mouth is in terms of trying these games as a newbie. I've been playing bass for over 20 years but have never really messed with a regular guitar.
