Rocksmith/Bandfuse...

Thanks for the tips strohman. When I found out it had effects and now amp sims I'm most def sold on it. I just don't know which one to get know. I'm thinking of convincing my girl to buy rocksmith for her oldest and I'll buy the other one hehe. I think either one would be cool, as I stated before, I played the hell out of guitar hero and rock band back in the day so these games would be a huge jump in improvement and more up my alley as I really do play the bass and sometimes guitar so it'll be interesting and fun I think to grab one of them.

One thing nobody's mentioned is that you don't HAVE to play the notes represented on the screen. These games are a great way to jam with all kinds of songs without the studio bass track. It's a great way to build your ear and improv skills.

That said, I wish Rocksmith had an option for a standard notation mode. Then the fame would teach sight reading, a really valuable skill!

I didn't realize Bandfuse used tab. That is one thing I don't like about Rocksmith- they could show you the notes or even tab, but they don't.

You also have to install Steam, and Uplay just to play the game. Both totally useless to me, but they have to load, and quite often update themselves... And if you ever somehow tick off Steam, they will disable all of your Steam games too...

Rocksmith does show you the lyrics on screen too, and is limited to two players at a time, no internet play of course (too much lag).

Not on the consoles you don't.

Not if you hook it up right. On the PS3, I have no lag even with the setup they DONT recommend.

I bought Rocksmith 2014 last week and the game is great. I've had a fun playing a lot of those songs. I never knew that Thunderkiss 65 was such a cool and fun song to play. If you are a beginner the game does go slow enough that you can learn and get better and there are lessons in the game as well.

I've listened to some of the bandfuse game play, the guitar tones don't sound that great. Rocksmith is different at first but it's very easy to get used to and it has some great guitar and bass tones. No reason for me to get bandfuse.

I've heard that bandfuse' effects are better. Is rocksmith good with the effects stuff? I'm torn now. I've been watching YouTubes on them both but honestly there are a lot of great ones to demonstrate their strengths.

I get good tones from both. Much will depend on your audio interface and how much time you're willing to spend tweaking and creating your own bass tones. If you're using run of the mill television speakers your tone will be less than great no matter what you do. I run my games through a digital, wireless headphone system and use Bose headphones. The tones from both games is excellent for me. I find Bandfuse's overall sound (not just my bass tone but also the tone of the entire songs) to be better and fuller than Rocksmith's tone but I don't hate Rocksmith's tone.

I am going to be taking my first lesson on the 2nd and I can't wait, knowing now that I'll be able to walk in there able to play some basic stuff and not feeling like a complete idiot.
Don't bet on that. You've been learning to play a game with a bass shaped game controller, but you are not learning the bass just because you're holding one. It's commendable that you are starting lessons ... it'll be money well spent. Your best bet is to forget what you think you know and start lessons as a complete newbie (which, of course, you are).

Or completely disregard posts like this from someone who likely hasn't played and therefore doesn't have a clue about the lessons and tutorials which are part of these "games." The OP is excited about continuing his learning which has begun from his experiences with this "game"....way to piss all over it though.

+1!! Thank you for saying this. I completely agree with you.

Seriously, thank you. These 'games' are revolutionizing the way we are taught and sparks interest in people who normally would think that they couldn't play an instrument

It was my pleasure! Everyone is looking for a short cut. There isn't one. Either you commit to learning your instrument, or you continue playing games. Makes no difference to me.

Who said anything about a shortcut?? He is simply stating that it's a decent start for people who haven't ever picked up an instrument but have had an urge to. This is a decent start to familiarizing themselves with a guitar or bass. No one ever said this is would be the end all be all of technique and learning how to play the bass. There's no reason to shoot folks down for trying to learn their own way. I'm not arguing that taking proper lessons by a trained teacher won't benefit someone more, because it will. But simply stated, this is a good start for someone who's never played.

I just picked bandfuse up. I'm enjoying playing the songs already. It's a treat. I've been playing for 14 years and I can say this is a neat tool for beginners and even guys who have been playing for a while. It's fun.

I have Rocksmith. I have had it for about a year, both versions. It is a great way for someone to get inspired to start playing, or to take it up again, like I did. Yes, you would be well off complementing your teaching with a bass teacher, a human, but it certainly isn't a waste of time. Also check out things like Scott Devine's online bass lessons. Good complements.

@gregmon79 I haven't tried Bandfuse, but initially Rocksmith's note highway may feel confusing, but soon enough you read it like a pro. Don't hesitate, try it, I think it is worth it. Certainly was for me.

That's my experience also.

Hey douchebag. It isn't a shortcut. You still have to pick up the instrument and learn how to play it.
Hmmm ... you sure are defensive! I'm sure you already know it all, so I defer to your vast experience ... like I said, I don't care what YOU do. If you think you're learning the bass, then have at it. Did you miss the part where I encouraged you to take REAL lessons? I thought so.
