Rogue VB100 violin bass electronics question

Hey all, new here and new to bass.

I play a little guitar and wanted to give bass a try. I decided that a short scale would be best for me so I bought a Squier VM Jaguar SS.

Today I spotted a Rogue VB100 for sale at a reasonable price. The seller says that one pickup became intermittent then quit working altogether. This normally wouldn't bother me, as I have done a lot of tinkering on guitars. But I'm concerned that it might be a bad switch and don't know if there is a direct replacement. I can't find any images of the electronics in these basses.

Or, it may be another problem altogether.

Any input will be much appreciated!

I picked up a VB100 a few months ago. Fun little bass. They do tend to go on sale at GC around holidays for around $170 new, if you’d rather go that route. I think that’s about what I got mine for last Labor Day.

I’m attaching a couple of shots of the underside of the controls. Everything is mounted to a PCB. The switches are very simple mechanically - the black part just slides between different contacts; you could probably repair one if you had to. But that’s assuming the switch is the problem. Each pickup also has a volume pot, and there’s also the possibility that the pickup is bad or even just something as simple as a disconnected wire.

Wow, thanks for doing that. That helps a lot. I didn't know what the switches look like.

I would be getting the bass for a price that I could afford to replace a pickup if necessary. Or, it may just be a bad solder joint. I just didn't want to end up with a bad switch that can't be repaired. I think I'll take a screwdriver and multi-meter along and see if the seller will let me take a look inside.

don't buy one with issues when a new one is less than $200 .. I got mine on sale at Guitar Center for $179 ... the sale happens once or twice a year... I just started a Rogue VB100 facebook page because I like mine so much.. best deal in the Bass guitarverse! I opened up both my Hofner and Rogue ... simple insides but an issue repair may cost more for parts and time than a new one would ...

I think you're right about that Scooter Johnson.

I decided to pass on that one and I'm keeping an eye out for a another. Meanwhile, I bought a Squier VM SS Jaguar along with a Fender Rumble 40. Now I just need to learn to play it. I'm trying to be especially careful to not develop bad technique habits before jumping into learning a bunch of riffs.

I'm a big fan of that Squier look in basses... It's used in an anime cartoon by the character Mio .. I have even met the English voice actor who played the part.
