Dave Holland gave me a Footprints lead sheet once--said he got those 9th and 10th measure changes "from Miles himself." Of course I lost that lead sheet!
Depends what "Real Book" ur reading from. Also what version u have. When someone calls "Footprints" and they play the D7 to Db7 turnaround, you know they've never actually listened to the tune and r just reading from the Real Book. When I first starting learning jazz I was guilty of just reading a tune from the Real Book. It wasn't till I started playing with certain people and they would make all these changes to the real book chords. Thats when i really made a point to listen to as much as i could- of course you can't learn every tune- but u can learn a lot. My first real awareness of Real Book mistakes was with "Dolphin Dance" where at the end of tune Ron Carter plays an E pedal to Eb pedal...yet the real book says B to Bb!! However, the RealBook Volume 6 has more accurate changes. www.basslessonslosangeles.com https://soundcloud.com/davidhiltonmusic/peace
