I think Ron McClure is a very influential bass player. He mostly plays upright acoustic bass, but I have heard him also play Electric bass. From 1974 to 1976 he played both acoustic bass and electric bass guitar in the pioneering Jazz rock group Blood Sweat and Tears, playing on their studio albums Mirror Image and New City, as well as the live album Live and Improvised In 1976. He composed the song No Show from the album New City.
He has also played on studio albums by Elton John, Dean Friedman, Michael Brecker, Bob James, Freddie Hubbard and David Sanborn, as well as released several albums of his own.
I would like to ask what Electric bass he played in Blood Sweat and Tears and later session work. My guess is that it was an Alembic Bass, or some sort of modified Fender Precision Bass or Fender Jazz Bass. But I also read that he played Roger Sadowsky basses. What amps does he use? My guess is that they were Sadowsky custom made amps, or some sort of Marshall, Vox, Ampeg or Fender Bassman Amps. I would like to see some clips of him playing Electric bass. Interestingly, Dave Bargeron, the trombone and tuba player for Blood Sweat and Tears also played acoustic bass on a few of their albums.
