Rookie needs help with effects chaining

I am very new to effects, I got them on order as a fathers day present. I dont have them yet, still waiting for delivery. I would like to chain these together, but dont know which order would sound the best or makes the most sense. The amp has an effects send and receive. I dont know if I should use it. Maybe some of you sound monsters could assist.

Here is what I am getting delivered:

Chromatic Tuner
Bass Driver (sans)
Wah Pedal
Bass Overdrive
Enhancer/Limiter
Chorus
Flanger

I may be way off here, but this is what im thinking:

Bass Guitar >Tuner >Bass Driver > Wah > Bass Overdrive> Enhancer/Limiter > Chorus> Flanger > amplifer

Thanks

I'd go:

Bass -> Tuner -> Limiter -> Overdrive -> Wah -> Flange -> Chorus -> SansAmp BDDI

Tuner first = mute

Limiter -> OD cus it'll give you a more even od sound and the BDDI has compression qualities anyway.

OD -> Wah cus it sounds better there IMO/E.

Flange -> Chorus after OD. These FX will sound more/better after the OD, but the order in of themselves is best left to someone else. I don't have a flange, but I do own a chorus.

BDDI last cus it's a DI and has it's own compression qualities. Use the blend sparingly (around 10-12 o'clock) or risk the wah not sounding right.

As always, other people will have other opinions, and in the end it's all up to you. Mess around, find an order you like, and have lots of fun. Welcome to the world of FX! :D

Depending on which OD you are getting, I would try putting it first in line, or at least in front of the limiter. IMO, the best attribute of a good OD is to distort a little more the harder you dig in. In other words, you should be able to control the degree of grit by how hard you play. Putting the limiter first would kill that dynamic sensitivity. YMMV. I would also suggest putting the chorus and flanger in the effects loop and running everything else into the front of your amp. Most importantly, experiment and have fun. Ultimately, whatever order sounds best to you is the right one. Good luck.

bass-shy, It looks like i am going to be busy playing around with the order of effects. I didnt think I would get any responses, but I guess this topic is not cut and dry. I appreciate and will also try your recommendations.

Thanks

Don't be afraid to send the kids out to a movie and the wife shopping, and spend a quiet day at home switch these up, and seeing what YOU like best. The best way "by the book" is crap if you don't like the way it sounds.

I dont need to tell them to get out for the day, they do that by themselves! :bassist:

Received all the effects today. The tuner is backordered (major bummer) so i will just add it when it gets here in August !!!

This is the chain so far:

Bass-> Overdrive-> Wah-> Enhancer/Limiter-> Flanger-> Chorus-> BDDI-> Amp

Sounds pretty good that way. When I have some time, I will take the chorus and flanger out of the chain and run them through the effects loop and see how that sounds. also try runnig the BDDI first in the chain

Now time to build a pedal board

Thats again to those who responded and those who may be destined to add some input.

Thanks Eric,

I had time to play with the setup last night. I originally had chorus and flanger out of the loop, but tried them in the loop.. I and am liking them in chain with the amp.

I messed around with the Wah location and found that overdrive before wah then Limiter gives great tone.

So this is the set up that I like the most:

Bass-> Overdrive-> Wah-> Enhancer/Limiter-> Flanger-> Chorus-> BDDI-> Amp

I am going to keep this setup but try the chorus in front of the flanger

Thanks for responding..

The only thing I would change here is put the tuner at the very end of the effects chain, as opposed to the front of it. This way the tuner can act as a "total mute", eliminating any hum any of the pedals might cause. Effect-caused hum usually isn't noticeable while playing, but having the tuner at the end could help cut it out when you aren't.
