roscoe basses

Am thinking about getting a roscoe 6 string and was wondering how the necks fill, or they streight for real low action. Do they produce good tone. They have real good prices. I have been looking at the one on perfect bass every day now.

HI

I've owned 4. Very nice. I no longer play them but I would be surprised if you didnt dig one. Contact Gard. He'll help you out figuring which one will suit you. They have their own thread on TB showing ones in progress of build and so on

They're great. Very beautiful sound that can vary a lot from different preamp and wood choices. The six string necks are slim and wide. Five string necks are a bit chunkier, in between a precision and jazz feel.

I don't think you can go wrong with them. They are expensive though. List on a SKB3006 is like 4 grand now or something.

I'm going to have to disagree with that. My SKB3005 has the 2nd thinnest neck I've ever played behind a Pedulla Rapture, which I thought was maybe even too thin, and I love me thin necks. The Roscoe neck is perfect to me, total butter.

Hmm, maybe I have a slightly anomalous bass then, because my neck is significantly thicker than 6 string Roscoes I've tried. It really does feel like a slightly thinner precision.

I have not played a Roscoe 6 but my 5 feels even thinner than a 4-string Fender Jazz neck to me. Maybe there is something about the curvature of the profile that creates an illusion or something but "chunky" is about the last description I would use. Of course, mine is quite old (built circa 93) so I guess it's possible mine is the anomaly, but just thought I should pipe up on that, since neck feel is probably the 1st or 2nd most important factor in a bass purchase to me.

I really like mine as well, and I'll +1 that to say that the neck is no where near "chunky" on my Roscoe. It isn't exactly the thinnest neck I've ever played but it's close to it, and far from Fender neck thickness or chunkiness.

You can check out pictures of my bass and the configuration I got on my SKB 3005 that's linked in my sig.

I ordered my Roscoe LG3005 fretless and specified a "slim" profile...and it is. Fantastic playing neck. I've played a friend's LG and while not quite as slim as mine, it's definitely not chunky. These instruments are hand made so there will be some variation. The guys at TPB know their stuff and know Roscoes so ask how the bass you're considering compares to others in feel (and tone, too!).

I've owned my LG3006 for a few years now and love it. The neck is slim and fast. I find with the active Bartolini's I've got a wide tonal range but pretty much run it flat. I've played quite a few 6 strings but the Roscoe has always felt the most comfortable to me. Hell, I just wish I had the money to buy another.

So you got gas. When that happens there is nothing anybody can say that can stop you. Until you try it yourself and make a judgement. Yes the neck is thin. And yes they have a signature sound. Is that for you, i don't know. I take it you have not tried it yet. Do yourself a favor and try one. I can't believe i myself get sucked into buying something before I even try it. There were times I liked it but most of the time i did not. That is when i never tried before i buy.
