Roscoe Club

Nice first night with the Century. Fun to have that super punchy, burpy thing happening. Boomy room and I could hear every note. The B string articulation is magnificent. Back in the hotel, done for the night!

What's your build order for the bad boy?

The build is a little different -

Lg3005
Alder body
Pau ferro board
Maple/wenge/maple neck
3 piece quilt maple top ( black gold )
All black hardware
Bartolini Jazz pickups ( 70s location... Sort of)
Bart pre
30 inch scale( that's right 30. I'm FULLY committed to short scales now. A mustang did it to me.)
16.5 mm spacing at the bridge.

When I get it I will make some videos so the roscoe-ites can see how it sounds.

Keith, do you still have the 6-string Roscoe you had at the last GA GTG? That bass is amazing!

Unfortunately I don't. It's one of the best basses I'de ever laid my hands on. And one of the most beautiful basses I've seen( and I had never been into cocobolo). It also had the best birds eye maple board i had ever seen. I used to open the case just to look at it. But unfortunately I've developed hand issues and the neck was too big for me. So it now has a new owner.

Thus my new roscoe build with a 30 inch scale and 16.5 mm spacing. To my knowledge( I'm not saying I know a lot) no one builds basses with a 30 inch scale and 16.5 mm spacing. The neck should be FAST!

I remember being tortured by the beauty of that bass. I wanted it so bad. But, I also really like the black gold finish that you're getting on your new bass. That should be another beauty!

Looking forward to your comments on your new short scale Roscoe. Are there many string options for short scale necks?

I dig the 30" scale. I've often thought about a sixer in that size. But, my fingers hurt thinking about 16.5mm spacing. The neck is going to be super comfortable though.

My oldest bass is a Hohner BBassV that has 16mm spacing. I got it when I was 17 and it was my one and only until I was 26. Looking back, I firmly believe that bass held my right hand development back because I just couldn't get between the strings. Now, that bass is strung as a piccolo and has found a whole new life.

Great looking bass Kjung! Very articulate I hear! But punchy too! How are you getting along with the 35" scale length so far?

Hey Gary! Thanks! It is a punch monster. Makes me play very differently (in a totally different way from the P making me play differently).

While I prefer 34" scale, it is not much of an issue for me. Pretty subtle, and the small bodies of the Roscoe basses (even the larger Century body) kind of mitigates the feel of the longer neck.

The 18mm spacing took me a few days to deal with, but even that is pretty easy to get used to. VERY sleek neck. You have to be careful with these basses, since they just want to make you play 8th and 16th note patterns, since the E and B string speak so well. That will tend to get you fired!

Fun bass to own, and man, the fit and finish, fretwork, etc. is really something.
