Roscoe Club

Well, Roscoeheads, I just received my 'repaired' Roscoe Demeter BEQP-1 from Demeter. I'm going to re-install it in my LG to see if it works as it should this time. You may not recall, but I initially ordered it in December!

Patience is a virtue!

Man, I do hope all is well. Good luck!

Thanks, @JOME77 and @RocketMusic! I have to admit I really wasn't too hopeful and didn't know what to expect, after all I had to call countless times to ask about it and to keep it in Jim's to-do work.
Break out the Champagne!!! IT WORKS!!!! YEAH!! My seven months journey to get a Roscoe Demeter BEQP-1 preamp in my Roscoe LG has come to an end!!!

Sweetwater.com announced their 36-months interest free 4th of July sale!! That TC Electronics Blacksmith is looking pretty nice right about now. But the real question is, do I need that amp??? :cautious:

That is a nice amp for sure. What makes you want to give that much for a amp head when there seems to be many more options cheaper than that? I’ve owned and gigged TC amps for years and IMO there are many better brands out there. I would take Genzler, Mesa, and Aguilar and there new Class D heads over TC’s any day.

Right!! Good point!! I like the features that the Blacksmith offers and the weight. I've not seen those features in other bass amp heads. I currently owned a Magellan 800 and it is a very nice amp. I tried the Aguilar Tone Hammer and sold it. I never looked at the Mesa nor the TC Electronics lines before now.

I've owned and gigged the Mesa 800 and 800+, Genzler 800 and 350 and the Aguilar AG700 and to the Aguilar and Genzler was the best with the regular Mesa 800 being 3rd. The Genzler is my favorite for ease of use and just sounding amazing in a full band setting. I would like to try the Blacksmith as it should be a few notches better than the TC RS heads I owned. Still I think I would look at other heads lesser than that like Bergantino and a few others.Lots of good choices out there for us bass junkies.

The Blacksmith does have a lot features that could break down, too. It's just the bells and whistles and all the nice little lights that are attracting me to it. I probably need to see if I can rent one for a gig before buying.
I have another outside gig to do tomorrow evening and I'm taking the Magellan 800. I used my GK MB Fusion 800 a couple of weekends ago at an outside gig and it rocked.

What does my Roscoe Brethren think of this wiring install? This is the cavity of my new Custom Build Devon bass. He's like this on every step of building his basses. He uses the paint shield and the copper foil to make super they are super quiet. I just love the Nordstrand 3b preamp and DC5s — It has the Vintage tone control added and each pickup set up to coil tap on a 3-position mini switch as bridge-coil/series/neck-coil. Incredible versatility!

I could be happy with those basses. Fretted and fretless Roscoe 5’s cover s lot. Should have kept my fretless. The J and P i thinknid have gotten in 4 string versions as I haven’t heard many B strings I like other than Roscoe, Modulus and a Warwick Dolphin Pro 5 I had many years ago. Have to have my Genzler amp though.

Nice set up to settle on though for sure.

The P-bass was my "permanent" entry point into 5-string, eight years ago. That thing is just magic. The Jazz came from Joe in a trade for my first Roscoe, the mahogany fretted JB. I've been using the Jazz on the neck pickup for recording and it's pretty awesome.

Still getting her all set up. Guessing the previous owner hadn’t played it in a long time, as the strings were DEAD, and the frets need a good polishing. I put some DR Hi Beams .45-.125’s on, which don’t seem like the best strings for it, but I have a bunch of sets and I’m familiar with them.

Anyways, I’m looking at D’addario nickels (both xl’s and nyxl’s) and wondering from you cats that use them- do i need the extra long scale, or do the regular long scales work all right?

For DAddario strings, you don’t need the Super Long ones, regular long is fine. I’ve used ProSteels (130 set), and am happy with the results. Nickels should sound even better, albeit for a shorter amount of time!

I’d imagine that Hi Beams are too bright / not enough girth to sound good.

It's actually been my experience that (on the Roscoe's) the winding(s) on the B (and I believe the E) string stop short of the nut (when using the long scale D'addarios XL's).
I've tried about evry string out there on my Roscoe's and always end up back using D'addario XL nickels. They just sound and feel perfect on a Roscoe.

I do have one Roscoe (STD JB model) strung with TI Jazz Flats and it does old school R&B and classic rock sooooo well!

My suggestion for players that like the D'addario XL Nickel strings is order them from the Roscoe shop. The come to Roscoe bulk (no packaging) and are much less expensive (need to order quantities of 5 or more to get the really good price break).
I believe that the Roscoe stock strings are 45, 60, 85, 100, 125. The packaged D'Addario's are 45,65,80,100,130.
