Roscoe Club

WHY, Keith!? :bawl: WHY?! :bawl: Slanting the pups in the opposite direction of Jimmy Haslip's Roscoe..:rollno:.. Do you expect us to reverse our strings?

Don't sweat it too much, it's a fairly subtle thing. I sold gobs and gobs of LG's with your pickup orientation, and never had any complaints. On top of that, arguably one of the most popular basses of all time (the Fender Precision) has the same sort of orientation. The E/A half of the pickup is farther from the bridge than the D/G half. Sure, we could order a reverse P orientation to try to mimic Jimmy's logic (which I agree is good logic), but there are a heck of a lot of hit songs that were recorded using basses with the normal pickup orientation.

@RocketMusic, I would be the last person to offer sarcasm!!! :) It is just not my thing to do!

And thank you for your response to the slanted pups conversation!!!

Very cool!

I would just hate for anyone to go from loving a bass to hating a bass because of something they were blissfully unaware of (like pickup orientation). The bass sounded great yesterday, right? If it doesn't sound great today, it's not the bass that changed. It's our brain and how we now perceive the bass that changed.

I'm preaching to myself here as much as anyone else. When I first learned about Jimmy's rationale, I almost sent my P4 back to Mike Lull to have him reverse the P pickup orientation for me. I'm glad now that I never got around to doing that.

Has anybody here ever had a bass with Zircote fingerboard? I wanted Ebony originally but Keith a really dark figured Zircote fingerboard that he recommended over all he had for this build. Said it’s tonally like Ebony and probably my even harder. Just wondering if anyone had ever had it before.

I have a Zircote neck , it's a stunning wood . Very smooth feel with no finish. Sounds great to me . This does have an Ebony board so I can't really comment on toans but it sounds great .

Never had it as a finger board wood Shane but those that do describe it as some where between Brazilian Rosewood and ebony. Sounds like a good place to be.! It certainly can be beautiful.

On the knobs with lines/dots ...... I prefer to just turn full up or off as a point of reference and then dial in from there. Most stages I couldn't see lines/dots on my knobs any way.

I kind of almost regret not keeping it and putting more time in on a 6'er! It was a very nice bass and the price I got it for, it was a steal!!
Well @JOME77, you should have offered your Fodera up as a trade, then that sweet 6'er wouldn't have been in your hands.
I wonder if Tom still has it?
