Roscoe Club

No basses on walls!

Devon had these made for my Cocobolo bass by Roger and THGKnobs. He does excellent work and has made me 5-6 sets in the past. They still have to be poly coated but are for this bass.

This is the kind of knobs I like best ! THGKnobs ! Wow ! immediately in the list of parts suppliers; the Roscoe I'm considering buying is provided with shiny, rounded black knobs that I never quite went along with ...:thumbsup::thumbsup:

@Thumper
Devin is making a set for my New Roscoe Bass Keith is building. They will be like this set he made for a Warrior I had. These had a Glow Veneer and Marker Dot. His worl isn't cheap but he uses metal inserts and they will last forever if you take care of them. View attachment 3392088 View attachment 3392089 View attachment 3392090

He does some beautiful work for sure!

I used to have custom knobs made for all my basses. Not sure what happened but I gradually just started liking black and chrome knurled knobs on my basses.
Maybe the "been there, done that" factor crept in.

I bought the loaded Classic 50's body which had been professionally modified for a studio musician who wanted one bass which could get either a J or P sound. It had 2 separate circuits each with its own output jack. I then added a MIM one piece P neck, and replaced the MIM P PUP with a Lollar, the 2 J PUPs were already Lollars. I had a custom one circuit wiring harness made, it now has volume, tone, and J PUP blend knobs as well as toggle switches for series/parallel, and J/P/JPJ functions.

Not long after I had it completed, the Classic Rock band I was using it for dissolved. I have been asked to re-form a very good Hard Rock band I was in from '98 to 2005, so in theory I could use it there, but have moved on to 5ers exclusively. I know it is irreplaceable so my 4s are all for display and occasional noodling only, except for the McCartney signed cheap P bass, that's display only.

Sorry about the low-res photos.

Very cool! I would definitely keep that one.

You made a statement that I hear lots of TB'ers state (or not). "I've moved on to the 5'ers exclusively".
There was a time that I could never see myself purchasing (or even owning) another 4 string bass. I made the switch to 5's back in 1990 and even migrated to 6'ers for 3-4 years between 2009-2013. Not sure what happened but over the last 2 years I've suddenly gone full circle and play 4 strings 90% of the time. There's certainly some church tunes that I need the low B for but overall I've fallen back in love with the 4 string (P-basses mostly) and I don't have any issues playing most of the tunes on the 4.

So yeah, keep the 4 string bass on the wall. You never know .........;)

Very nice collection by the way!

Buenos días my fellow Roscoeheads! On the heels of acquiring a Roscoe Classic 5JJ, I’m now having a new Roscoe built. It seems a bit surreal for me, since after all these years of gigs and buying, trading and selling basses, it’s my first custom order. And how appropriate it is for it to be a Roscoe. I purchased my first one in ’91 and, like many of you, have owned a few since then.

Keith went along with my specs 100% and says it should be a fun build. Apparently, he’s even trying something new with this build. Of course, I have complete faith in Keith to pull this off.

Awesome Gary! Share some pics as they're available.
Good to hear from you.
Also wanted to let you know that we're having a Bass GTG this Saturday in Warner Robins (12:00-4:00 PM).

@campbems...look familiar? Just arrived today! Super excited! I've tried to get this one twice, and finally timed it up. Going to do my 'Adam' special, as I've gotten used to with my beautiful used Roscoes:
(1) Scotchbrite the back of the neck to knock down the gloss buildup, returning it to a satin finish.
(2) Dunlop superbright 40-120 (never thought I'd use strings this thin, but it's a great, reliable set, and Dunlop recently took care of me really well with a customer service issue).
(3) Play the crap out of it!

Also, I'm not as fond of the Aguilar pickups/pre as the Barts...I have recently come to realize (via BBG) that the Bart P5 shape is not the same as the Aguilar P5. Are there any P5s that can replace the Aguilar (same size)? I've got a spare Bart 3-band pre that I'll drop in this weekend.

That was my first Roscoe and first Cocobolo wood bass. I really liked that bass and it was really impressive in a band setting. The Aggies cut through really nice. Cocobolo is a beautiful wood for sure.

Man that Cocobolo P/J is stunning!

That gets me thinking...if that were a fully passive P/J Century, how would the sound compare to a Classic P/J? My 4 string Roscoe Classic has really make me appreciate a properly done passive bass (I hate how Fen**r basses feel, sound, and are made) and I want a Classic 5 string P/J now. But I admit I do like the Century body better (Century is the perfect design) so a passive Century may be the ticket....if they have that sound! Is the pickup placement different?
