Roscoe Club

It’s funny how so Many here get ruffled over someone selling a bass or basses when several have just as many sales as I have lol. Bottom line if I want to sale anything I have it’s really none of your business unless you want to buy. I’m respectful to everyone on here but enough is enough.

Man, don't worry about it. You do you. If you've been blessed to have the income to buy new basses to try 'em out, go for it!
 
Maybe someone here knows answers for some questions regarding Hipshot A bridges?

1) The Hipshot Type A bridge used by Roscoe is aluminum. It is considered proprietary due to the radiused plate where saddles reside. What are the saddles made of for the Roscoe-spec bridge?
2) A standard Hipshot aluminum Type A weighs 5.6oz, or 159g*. What are the saddles made of?
3) How much does the Roscoe spec aluminum Type A weigh? The Roscoe spec bridge has more material.
4) A standard Hipshot brass Type A weighs 10.4oz, or 295g*. What are the saddles made of?

Anyone know?

Thanks for the info. Interesting. There is this statement regarding custom builds: "Certain custom builds may require an additional deposit or a return fee."

This type of policy could be part of any build agreement if acceptable to the builder, and agreed upon in writing, before any money is exchanged.

I thought the saddles on the a style bridge are brass, it’s just the base plate that’s a different material. But I could be wrong. I replaced a bridge on a Modulus before because of finish wear and assumed it was brass because of the metal showing through the finish, but could immediately tell because of the weight difference just holding the bridges in my hands. I’ll have to look, but I swore I took some pics and posted in the Modulus Mob thread.

So I took be beloved SKB Custom JJ to my duo gig Saturday and snapped a crappy pic before the gig started. The bass started going out on me in the last set and finally croaked. I figured the preamp was fried from the horrible sounds. Of course it happens when I don’t have a backup. So today I went through it to see what the issue was. First step… batteries right. Would you believe the original batteries from 2014 that expired nearly three years ago lol. Changed em out and she sounded amazing. Note to self…. Do maintenance a little more frequently.

But now it’s not “all original” :D

Glad it was a simple fix. I set a reminder to change mine in all my basses every six months (then ignore the reminder for a month or two). While thankfully I’ve never needed it, I do prefer basses with an active bypass, just in case.
 
My "reminder" is a small piece of light-green painter's tape with the fresh battery date "sharpied" on. Tape is affixed to the battery cover on the back of the bass. Batteries are changed every 6 months.

Sometimes when batteries fail, it's gradual and audible like the armybass experience. Other times they fail without "distortion" and notice. The bass signal is just dead.

I also carry 4 fresh batteries in my gig bag. 2 for me, and 2 for band mates. Many times my spares have gone to them in their time of dead-battery anguish. For some reason batteries are dramatic and love to "die" in or near the spotlight.

Following some recent questions here, I dove into some previous posts regarding Roscoe Classic bass construction. Here's some info provided across multiple posts by Gard Lewis:

Graphite-reinforced 1-piece maple neck
35" 5-string scale for B-string presence
1.75" nut 4 string, 1.95" nut 5 string
.75" (19mm) bridge spacing for both 4 & 5 string
9.5" fretboard radius
Dunlop 6150 fretwire, like all Roscoes
Graph Tech Tusq (graphite) nut
Neck feel similar to a Roscoe Beck 5
1.5" body thickness (thinner than more typical 1-5/8")

Wow...1.95" nut on the 5-string! That's enormous!
