Roto-sound tape wound strings?

Thanx for the reply....Was truly helpful.I'm still wondering what the difference in sound would be on an acoustic (Takamine EG512CGAM ).Most played were P basses or at best solid bodys...thanx again for the help....
Not a lot of help because I've only tried the RotoSound tape flats on a fretless Warwick LX5. I didn't like them. They looked good and felt pretty good, but I didn't care for the tone at all, felt too much like the tape was choking the string resonance. This prevented me from trying any other tape covered strings. After that I tried chrome flats on a P bass and was sold. I have not tried the chromes on the fretless, the only strings on the fretless that I've been happy with are DR coated strings.
As I indicated it's not what you are looking for but it's all I have to offer. If I knew what I did with the tape flats I'd offer them up, but they are likely long gone.

My experience is that they record great but don't quite cut it live. My band just put of a CD on which I used a Lakland 55-94 with Rotos tapes taken direct to the board, set flat and run through Amplitube. Sounds amazing. But the same bass with those strings live is lacking in punch and depth. The gauges also take some getting used to -- not the common difference in gauges between strings.
In my experience stringing the piezo posse, the Roto tapes are the most "woody" and "uprightish."
While most of my basses get LaBella tapes, I do like the Roto's.
Especially love the way theyt sound on my Tacoma ABG. Im also thinking of trying them on my Rob Allen MB2 fiver.

I've been using the RS88 set on all of my fretless basses over the years, including my current '70s P fretless and my Rob Allen Deep 4. I tried the 760N Labella set once and never looked back.
I think the gauges are perfect, and for awhile, had my D4 strung up with the bottom four of the 5-string set.
If you don't like thick strings, none of the tapewound strings will be for you.
