Rotosound Jazz Bass 77 VS DR hi-beam flat??!

for a fretless bass and flatwound strings, i've heard that rotosound's jazz bass 77 and DR hi-beam flat are good.
what are there disadvantages respectively?

I havent tried the DR flats, but the Rotos are very high tension and quite bright for flats, whereas I heard the HBs are thuddy, but not sure about the tension.

I'd say they are beyond "very high tension". For me the tension is so high that they are almost unplayable. But they do sound good.

IHMO/YMMV etc. etc.

I wouldn't say that they are no good, a lot of people really like them. But they are some of the highest tension strings you'll find. I didn't like them, too much tension for me. If you get a chance you should try for yourself.

I had them on my Jazz Bass for about a month, didn't like them when I put them on, and they didn't grow on me, so eventually I switched to Chromes which are also high tension but not as high as the Rotos.

I think I would have liked them better on my P-bass (and maybe I'll try them on it one day) as I tend to play a lot closer to the bridge on the Jazz.

Depends if you like high tension strings, a lot of people do. I found them uncomfortable personally, but you could try the lighter gauge, though I doubt it would make a massive difference.

well, i think i can handle the tension because i once had played a super hi tension cello,, maybe i should go to try some in the store before i actually get the strings.

hi beam flats mediums are just about the same tension with chromes regular light set

Strings are personal bassed on bass setup and playing style and the sound you are going for...some get a great sound with loose rubbery feel and some get a great sound with stiff feeling strings....heavy guage or ultra lights...high action vs low action...light touch or dig in.....I use ultra light Nickle or Steels but I think my sound is thick, full, deep and round due to my playing style and set up.....good luck!
