Round Sound

I currently play on a Jazz bass, but I'm having some trouble creating that deep, round sound that is so signature to players like John Deacon from Queen. I know he's on a P bass or a Music Man, but do I really need to go out and buy a P bass to obtain that kind of sound?

Hmm...

My first thought was something I read here, P basses thunp and Jazz basses clang.

However, if you roll the tone down into the basement, favor or solo the neck pup and maybe fiddle with the eq settings a bit.....you get close....but remember you have a jazz bass.....

Or just go buy a p bass with flats..... :D
