Rounded Jazz Pickups???

Can anyone identify this bass by the rounded pickups?

Older MIJ Jazz copy, but could be any one of a zillion brands.

I have one of those pickups floating around in my "misc parts" box.

No offense intended, but GEEZ that bass is ugly! It must have tons of mojo to make up for all that ugly, right?

It has a cool neck on it... And it is really really cheap. Thinking about stripping it and using tung oil, and some new wiring/pots/jack in it. Now I know where I can get new pup's if these are dead. : )

Nothing a tort pickguard won't fix.

So are the covers rounded like that or are the pickups actually without covers? Can't quite tell from the photos. It does look like the routs in the body are rounded in such a way that you'd need to do a bit more routing before dropping in a standard J set.

Hopefully you won't need to. Cool find!

Now I know where I can get new pup's if these are dead. : )

I checked, and I do indeed have one. It reads 7.94 on my multimeter, so nice and strong. If one of the pickups in your bass is bad and you need this one, you are welcome to it...just let me know !

I wonder if other standard J pickup coil/bobbin assemblies would fit inside that cover? If so, you'd have options for your options.

EDIT: Ehh... not the ones I've got lying around. :/

I wish more covers were rounded, or MORE rounded so we didn't have to sand/grind them down everytime

My Nordstrand J set came with slightly rounded edges.
