Rudolf the Red - deceptively hard

Im playing it just bass and vocals.
The written part is 1-r-5–r.
But that isn’t filled out enough without other instruments.
So I was playing 1-3-1-5.
Only the first measure was giving me a problem.
I just couldn’t sing the melody right over that rhythm. It just kept coming out with ‘Dolph on beat 2 instead of 1and. Lol

Swing or not to Swing, that is a question.
(One could replace Swing with Shuffle for simplicity purpose.)

Polka (as the accompaniment) does not SWING!
The promoted version of the Rudolf the Red Nose Melody - it SWINGS!

Yeah, I eventually figured it out. But the problem was the melody.
Playing it in C, Ru-Dolph is an eight note tied to a dotted quarter. So Dolph is the on the 1-e- and the bass needs to hit the &.
That was throwing me.
But I got it eventually. Lol
Thanks to everyone for all the help snd input.
