Going to look at a used one tomorrow. They are asking $300. As a beginner is this too much too quick or is it an investment for down the road?

Definitely an investment for down the road, and a good one, at that. You’ll find a lot of love for the 200 and its 15" Eminence driver here on TB. It’s light, much louder than you’d expect, and you can add a cab to it when you start gigging. Hop on over to the Fender Rumble Club and get the skinny from those in the know.

You rarely find a 200 combo below about $280. These things are holding value on the used market.
If they weren’t any good, that wouldn’t happen.
This is about the minimum size amp for anything you might want to gig with.

If have this amp, it is fine for beginners and will hold up for down the road.
I got lucky and found a stupid good deal on mine. That won’t happen again.
$300 is about the middle of the range for one in nice shape.
You won’t be disappointed unless you just don’t like the Fender sound.

nice looking combo --- if it's in great shape = snag that "investment" and see what you can do with it! of course, you can always offer $250 and see where that takes you. (i'd snag it at that price.)

I've got one and it sounds amazing - warm, loud, and vintage tone for days. $300 isn't a steal but it's a solid price for a used one in good condition!
