Running EMG Active Pups w Darkglass Preamp from one 9v?

Hey all,

Anyone running 2 EMG active pups w a Darkglass preamp from on 9 volt battery? Thanks so much!

It will be 100% fine. The convention when powering more than one component on a 9v battery in a bass is to wire the circuits in parallel, such that they all see the same voltage. So the pickups and preamp will all work fine. Current draw is absolutely miniscule, so battery life won't be significantly different than what you'd expect.

BTW, silly question, but do I just run two hot and two negative leads from the 9v? One (pos and neg) from the battery to the to the pups and one (pos and neg) to the pre? That I'm my mind would be parallel (vs series, which would be more of a daisy chaining of sorts)? Thanks again!

Yes.
You could also say run a + and - to the pre, and from the same terminals, run the power to the pickups. Or vice versa.

In most cases the battery negative will go to the ring terminal of a stereo output jack so there is no current drawn without a plug connected, so the - connections from both preamp and pickups will just go directly to the sleeve connection at the output jack rather than direct to the battery clip.

Why not run the EMG active pickups with an EMG pre? The EMG pre has low noise, versatility, switchable treble curves, sweep mids, etc., plug-and-play, interesting accessories like the EXB and a "passive-style" treble rolloff, if you want to add them, and all on one 9-volt battery.

Personally, I love EMG pickups, but their preamps don't seem to kick in as quickly as almost every other pre I've tried. I usually have to boost a frequency more than halfway before I notice the same effect as the Darkglass give me within the first eighth of a turn.

And, for the record, I have 4 basses with various combinations of EMGs, but each has a different pre- Bartolini, Audere, SNC and Darkglass. All running on a single 9v, each.
