There seems to be an overrepresentation in threads or post where Rush or Geddy Lee is mentioned here on TB. So that got me wondering is it the same people who starts all this, or is there an overrepresentation of Rush fans on TB.

I know, I'm not one :hiding:

Well, this is a Bass players forum for the most part, right?

Geddy Lee is one of the Greats, no doubt.

The release of their new album is generating much discussion about him and Rush.

If Led Zeppelin just came out with a brand new record, we'd get tons of John Paul Jones threads too..

The Farewell to Kings tour was my first concert, and I've been a fan ever since.
I will concede that Ged's voice is a bit of an "acquired taste" but anyone who's witnessed Rush play live can attest to the fact that Geddy is truely one of the all-time greats.
2112 is the album that made me want to be a musician & bassist, and it's still one of my all-time favorite albums.

I don't really understand anyone who:

1. Plays bass
2. Likes any kind of rock and roll at all
3. Isn't a Rush fan

But there is much in life I do not understand.

I've been playing since 1992. I'm big into metal and jazz. I have HUGE respects for the classic rock artists, but most don't figure prominently in my listening. I love Cream and Zep, but I don't constantly listen to them. Rush is a great band, and there's not one bad thing I could ever say about their music. I have huge, huge respect for them. But, for some reason, their music has never "hit me in the chest." *shrug* It just doesn't move me the way Primus, Cachao, Tarja Turunen, 80's Metallica, Jaco, or Cannibal Corpse can (yes, I listen to a LOT of different stuff.) It's just one of those things...it's in the ear of the beholder, and not subject to logical explanations that you can spell out like you did (1, 2, 3...)

To each his own. Enjoy it, live it, breathe it. I do the same with the artists I adore.

Well, you can respect a band (or a player) even if they're not your "cup of tea" taste-wise. I think you've got to respect good songwriting, musicianship, performance and body of work even if the finished product doesn't suit your tastes.
