Russian Muff help please!

I've been using a friends american big muff for a while and loved it so I went ahead and bought a russian muff. I linked it up in the following way, not using the effects loop...

BASS > MUFF (PEDAL) > TUNER (PEDAL) > AMP

I get a perfect signal when the muff is off, but as soon as a step on it, the light comes on and I lose all signal! what's going on!!!

Opposed to the 'volume' dial being at zero....

The only thing I can think of is faulty wireing, I'd take it back if I was you.
