S-Ray build ceruse finish

Here are a few more pictures of the finishing process.
About 6 thin coats of black filler.
Sanded back with 320 grit.
A little tedious around the radius edges. Went really slow to keep from sanding the black out of the grain but still removed more than I planned on at the edges.

Thanks Guys. A little progress today. Final coats sprayed on the neck and grain filled the knobs. The filler really set off the knobs.

I'm about to start a build for a customer that will be a similar finish process but will have a transparent white top coat with the black grain underneath. Totally different shape but similar finish.

The birdseye grain on the neck is absolutely insane - I agree with your decision to keep it unblocked. I can't wait to see this project finished.

Thanks Tom. I am using Target Coatings em1000 sealer and high solids grain filler.

This is the third project that I have used their finishes on and I'm still a little on the fence. I think that it is great stuff but I have used nitrocellulose for a long time on all types of projects both musical and others. I'm real comfortable with nitro products. Just trying to go the green route and save a few brain cells.

Thanks I wonder if that can be gotten locally I will have to look into it. I can't spray nitro I have never had a headache like that before. i have 5 or so spray can's i need to get rid of mostly clear I think....t
Yep! Had a few of those headaches myself. I always try to use the best respirator that I can come up with when fooling with nitro. The Target coatings finishes are pretty nice in that regard. I still use a respirator though. I'm spraying them through an hvlp gun.

Finished the body and neck. Sprayed about 10 coats of finish then let it set for the recommended time. I wet sanded the body up to 2000 grit this evening and made one pass with buffing compound. I will polish the body tomorrow evening and start shielding and wiring.
