i have a fender p bass with s1 switching and id like to replace the stock pickup with a basslines quarterpounder, but the stock pickups are a 4 wire pickup and the basslines are only 2. id like to keep the s1 switching since its there already( even though i never really use it but what the hell ya never can have too many options so why get rid of it if i dont have to) so my question is basically can i make this happen? or is there a more useful mod i could do with the s1 switch instead of series/parrallel? ideas? input? schematics? im all ears

When you replace the pickup, remove the S-1 pot and install a 500k push/pull pot to enable series/parallel switching just like the S-1 pot.
I will add that the P bass "sound" IS the split hum bucker wired series, I don't know if it will appeal to you to put the pickup in parallel mode. But that is all opinion.

AFAIK you can't do a series/parallel switch on a pickup with only two wires. There is no diagram for series/parallel with a single P pickup on the Duncan site. IMO if you don't use it then just go with the Quarter Pound pickup and forget the switch.
Correct. You can remove the series link between the two coils and bring two more leads into the control cavity, however, if you want series/parallel switching. Most people don't find the parallel coil combo useful.

Just wire up the Quarter Pounder for four wires. Follow the original pickup as a guide. I like series parallel on P basses.
It's handy when you want a non P bass tone with more highs and less mids. You still have the series option for the standard tone. I used to use it in parallel wall the time for a more modern tone. All my P basses had series parallel switches. They work particularly well with hotter pickups like Dimarzios and QPs.

alright thanks for the input, basically confirmed what i was thinking. i think im gonna go with the qp and add two wires to it so that i can still have the s1 and utilize the pot. though like line6man said i had also thought about doing the whole two cap thing with it. i also have already moded the origional tone pot to be a no load pot now. how difficult is it to add the two wires to the pickup? im a good solder just not a preceder that ive done before. and if i really wanted to go crazy and maybe combine the ideas, qp with series/parrallel using the s1 pot and adding a mini toggle and using two different caps plus the no load pot thats already in it? what do you guys think of going all out and doing that?
for an update, i replaced the stock pick up with the qp and every knob and switch works but shes buzzing a bit, im thinking i accidentally reversed the leads that are soldered directly to the pick up coil. anyway to test this with a meter to find the wrong wire or just do trial and ereor until its right?
well the operation was a success, the problem was exactly what i though just had the wires going to the lead pickup reversed. thing sounds killer now, thanks for everybodys input and help. thinking the next mod will be a 2 way switch and run two seperate caps, probably a vintage style one and a more modern one. any recomendations?

Try .047µF and .02µF. The smaller one just shaves off the top end, and leaves the upper mids. It gives a cool tone.

I’m working on restoring my buddy’s 2004 American P bass with S1 pot. Years ago he had the pickups changed to Duncan basslines (2 wires) and it’s currently wired with the S1 switch bypassed. He wants the original functionality restored, but unfortunately the original fender pickups were discarded so I don’t have a reference point.
I understand I’ll need to solder in wires on to each pickup to make it 4 wires, but I’m not finding much info on where the leads from each pickup should be soldered in at on the switch, or which lead would be hot or ground.
If anyone has done this successfully, could you please share some pictures or diagrams? Thanks in advance!
