Sacrilicious cab mods for Traynor YBA-2B

I just got this thing and the amp is in fine shape, but the cab is a mess.

The particle board baffle probably got wet at some point and the previous speaker tore out. The most recent owner "fixed" it by gluing and screwing ply behind the baffle and using longer screws as needed. The rest of the cab is no longer sealed either, and a breeze can be felt anywhere there's a crack, so pretty much everywhere. The final insult is that the amp wants an 8 ohm load, and there's a 16 ohm in there, also looks like it spent time in moisture.

I know at the least I can't make it worse, so I want to tear it down and mix it up. I'll get new baffle material, measure for a 12", drop heights, trim excess, seal it properly, and add kickstands so my calves don't go deaf.

For the speaker I'm considering an Eminence BassLite S2012.

Has anyone tried something like this and found it to be the Worst Idea Ever? I don't care about resale or vintage blah blah. I just want it to work and fit under my Rhodes.

I did not know of this Duratex. Now I have seen it, and therefore your are my friend. I was not looking forward to a Tolex job!

I am considering the new cab option, but that's more work and I'm lazy. My rough measurements show my Traynor cut down size to be the perfect sealed volume for the BassLite, but I'll be more exact before I commit to anything. Also considering metal grate instead of grille cloth. Ooo, chain link fence could be funny! But no, I'm still casting around for the details. :)

Everything can and probably will change the instant I start anything destructive. The minimum plan is just make a box for the head, and that'll happen even if I go for it with one cab or other. As for chain link, I really have to imagine that one HARD before moving forward. It'd be great for a Mad Max look, but all I really know is I'd probably eff up the cloth. :wacky:

rrrrrrgh... I might be losing my nerve to take on a big (for me) project right now, so at minimum I need a new baffle board and an 8 ohm 15". I'm looking at the DeltaLite II 2015, which is sadly $65 more than the 12" BassLite I was thinking about, but magically almost the same weight!

Is everyone pretty much agreed that Eminence is the way to go for vintage replacements? I have no clue what those shipped with. I thought people liked JBL too, but I couldn't tell you where I heard that, so really I know nothing.
