i just started checkin birthdates on my favorite band members. dio 66, sabbath in their 60s, the who 60s, deep purple 60s, nugent, hagar 60s. i remember these people in their youth. they try so hard now, voice not as powerfull, out of breath, bottles of water instead of jack, workin out rather than bustin up hotel rooms. where did the years go?

Lemmy doesn't count, he's a god. But yeah I agree, it's sad that all these musicians that represented youth and rebellion are grandfathers now. It's especially saddening to see people like Ozzy, Pete Townshend, and the guys from Zeppelin. It's not only their appearances, but the fact that I'm going to outlive all of them (unless a truck hits me or something). I can't imagine how much it'll suck when Geezer dies (knock on wood).

For me, some make the transition to a more mature version of their musical self, while others just decay. Clapton is a cool old rocker. The Rolling Stones and Van Halen are geriatric cases pretending to be young. Miles got older gracefully (well- gracefully for Miles). Why can't some of these rockers?

lets take dio for example. 1980 black sabbath. heaven and hell tour. wicked voice. dio 2007 heaven and hell tour. voice, not as powerfull. gotta give it to him for tryin, but for me, it just wasnt there. 27 years does alot to a man. but i like to remember them in their prime. hearin these people now just saddens me. must be im gettin older as well. i still cant wait for their new album later this year.

Remember when Rod Stewart used to sing rock tunes before he started wearing a white blouse and rehashing old Motown tunes.

I have to admit that i will sometimes refrain from going to a gig as i believe that the singer is past it. I would rather remember them the way they were.

The exceptions for me in the last couple of years have been The Eagles and Yes. Both bands still $hit hot and both lead singers still top of their game.

I watched Judas Priest a few weeks ago. They look old but man do they rock. Halford's voice was unbeliavable,we thought he was playbacking as it was beyond words...he was like a half god on the stage.



But yea,time passes very fast,its sad.

seein the who on rock honors got me thinkin about this subject. pete was on top of his game. i had mixed emotions about pino. pino is top shelf but its not the same without entwistle, he just had that coolness about him. everyone in the band would go nuts but there is john all cool and laid back keepin the bottom end down.
