Sadowski... Not impressed...

I recently had a chance to travel to NYC and got the chance to play a few Sadowskys...

I have to say, I was not impressed. The neck was bulky and chunky... The preamp was alright, but even with it being tweekable, I still had alot of bottom end I could not get rid of. In other words, It was very hard to get a good balance out of it...

Ampeg SVT head, into an Amped 6x10, EQ flat, Sadowsky started flat, and changed to suit....

I guess I'll stick with Pedulla, Warwick and Benevente....

That's weird, I played one recently and had no trouble dialing in anything I was looking for. I didn't find the neck to be clunky at all, it was pretty comfortable. Not the best neck I've ever played (that goes to my Lakland) but it was nice none the less. Of course if you play Warwick and think the Sadowsky is clunky I'm very surprised:D

to each his own indeed. i think theyre very nice insturments. but i wouldent expect someone who owns warwick to like a sadowsky..thats a given, theyre just differnt..

If I would have tried my Sadowsky in a store, living room, etc., I wouldn't own it today. At home it really doesn't blow me away. However, I bought it off the net and, upon recieving it, took it straight to a gig. Within seconds of playing the first song I realized it was THE best tone I've ever had. There is something about the tone of the Sadowsky's in the mix that can't be beat. PERFECT fingerstyle tone and the slap tone I've been in search of as long as I've been playing. I've owned several other high end basses but nothing has compared to the Sadowsky IN THE MIX.

Wow, I guess you and I have complete opposite needs in a bass. My NYC is pretty much perfect for me.

This would seem to make sense – it's kind of like the companion story to the commonly-heard ones about boutique basses that sound killer in your living room, but not-so-great in a band setting.

Disclosure: I've never played a Sadowsky.
