Sadowski... Not impressed...

IIRC, Roger started out setting up and modding Fender basses for players in New York, then decided to start making basses that were like Fenders for people who wanted a higher-quality bass with a Fender vibe. Try one of his Modern 5s if you want to stray away from the Fender sound a bit. I was not too fond of his vintage-style basses that I tried (I'm just not a vintage type of guy), but I love the sound of the Moderns, so I own two.

I own a Warwick (Thumb fretless) and a Sadowsky NYC ... I love them both. Both *are* very different basses though, but I have always been of the opinion that you can find something to love with just about every bass ...

When I bought the Sadowsky, I was choosing between that and a 62 RI ... the Sadowsky wins hands down.

And for the record, I am extremely impressed by my Sadowsky .. and I own (and have owned) a lot of basses ...

Generally speaking, I've always been a modern bass kind of guy. I love Warwick and Modulus, as well as several other high-end modern style basses.

However, I just bought a Sadowsky RV5! Why? Because there are times when I just love the tone of a Jazz. IMO, a J-bass is the most versatile bass out there. You can make it sound good doing anything.

So, why didn't I just get a Fender then? Sorry to all the Fender lovers out there but I just can't deal with the quality issues. These days, after getting used to the insanely high quality fretwork and necks on my Mod Q5 and Wick SSII, most Fenders I've played just drive me nuts. I chose Sadowsky because of reputation for quality mainly (though based on what I've read and heard, I think the tone is better than a Fender too :hiding:). I wanted a J-bass but just refuse to deal with Fender's quality issues.

More than I can say for about a ton of guys on these boards who never even seen one in person, let alone played one, but still pile on the negative comments.

But gotta wonder why you purposefully mis-spelled the name in the topic....:eyebrow:

IME, EVERY bass has its fans, and EVERY bass has its detractors ... on here though, everyone seems so ...passionate;)

I played a Metro jazz 5'er at a GTG a few months ago. I can't tell you which one but I can tell you it wasn't an MV5 or a Modern. It was the first and only Sadowsky I've played to date. I liked it as far as the feel and the weight but the tone wasn't really what I had expected it to be.

I have, however, heard a Modern 5'er played by Enrico Galetta and absolutely fell in love with it as far as tone is concerned, very modern and punchy. I just can't afford the freakin' thing.

So you tried and do not like....That's cool!

As it's been said by Roger {many,many times}...SadowskY's are not for everyone.

Gotta ask....

1) why mis-spell Sadowsky??

2) where in NYC did you try out a few of our basses?? It sure wasn't at the shop...we don't have a Ampeg SVT head or a Ampeg 6x10.

:hmm:...I hope that you do realise that on the Sadowsky preamp, the tone controls are boost only...

if you don't realise this, it WILL be quite difficult to get a good balance out of it....

Yep. I waited years to purchase my "dream" boutique bass. When I finally bought it and played it at home it was awsome. When I got on the gig it wasn't all I had hoped. I owned it for just a few months. My Sadowsky J is the exact opposite story. I won't make a judgement as far as tone goes anymore without playing a bass with a live band.

I haven't tried a Sadowsky before, so I can't judge for myself. (I don't see how others can judge, but yet have never tried something out!)

If you tested the bass and didn't like it, good for you. Glad you didn't knock'em before trying it.

To each his/her own.

I think Sadowsky basses are great. I own two of them, and two G&L basses.

I also like Warwick basses, but most weigh too much for me.

I have no trouble with too much bottom end.

I know a guy that tried one of my Sadowsky basses and didn't like it, saying the neck was too big.. he likes his bass strings to be really close together, and I don't.

This is why having so much variety from all the different manufacturers is always going to be a good thing.

Not everyone has the same preferences!
