And +1 to Joe's comment regarding the bridge pickup. Literally the only knob I ever touch once the gig starts is the blend control, slightly favoring the bridge pickup for a bit more aggressive, burpy midrange on a few tunes, and having that neck pickup on just a touch results in the low end staying fat (and for those who use singles, the pickups remain reasonably hum cancelling).
I assume for those with other tone goals, doing the same thing but favoring the neck pickup will also get you quickly and easily to a different place tonally.
