Hey, I was wondering how the Sadowsky NYC basses are good basses. Ive heard that alot of people like them. I was also wondering about slap tone and string spacing on them. Thanks for the help.

Sadowsky Basses

Do a search. Sadowsky's are probably the second most-talked about bass brand here (besides Fender).
Not to bash BT, but the clips on their website are not sufficient enough to render judgment on the majority of basses they demoed. The best way to really tell if the tone is for you is to play it for yourself.
In any case, what makes the Sadowsky NYC basses "good" is their construction, sound, and reliability. If you want the Sadowsky sound without dropping NYC $$$, the Metro sounds practically identical.
The only big difference really is the limited options, and wood selection (meaning certain Metros may be heavier than others, etc...)
That said though, Metros still are outstanding basses and I would love to own a Metro 5 after my NYC 4 is done.
I agree with Marcus. Bass Tasters doesn't really give accurate clips of what the basses sound like.
I just picked up a Sadowsky NYC standard 5 and it is awesome. Great sound and playablility. The slap tone is great too. VTC is amazing. String spacing is 19mm at the bridge I believe. Overall, the spacing is roomy, but not too wide. Good for both slap and fingerstyle. Metros are amazing too. I emailed Roger Sadowsky and he said that they might be coming out with a Metro line P5 bass in late summer. I will own one of these.

I've played quite a few Jazz basses, different Fenders, G&L versions etc. It took a Sadowsky to sell me on Jazz basses. They are a class act. FedEx has my second one now. A 24 5.
If you've got the cash, they are worth it. If you don't, you can live w/ a Fender or MM or G&L or whatever.

I agree too, so it's a good thing that was never the point. It's for comparison - read the paragraph on the home page. If you compare the Sadowsky with the Fender, you get a very accurate comparison of the overall sonic signature. All in good fun
As for Sadowsky, it's not the most exciting bass I own... but it's the one I always reach for as i'm heading out of the house to a gig. That speaks volumes.

IMO there are two things to consider if you're looking at a Sadowsky:
1. The output is HOT. You will want to carefully control volume from your amp to protect your speakers.
2. Any bad habits you have will be microscopically amplified with the instrument. The good news is that the bass will totally capture your tone. The bad news is that the bass will totally capture your tone.
