I think that strings are extremely subjective. Different basses take different strings in unique ways. For instance, I'm using Ernie Ball Slinky's on an MTD Kingston AG5 and I've never really enjoyed those strings on any other bass.
I've been using Sadowsky strings on my Sadowsky basses for quite a while and I don't really have a desire to use anything else on them, and I've definitely tried mostly because I'd love to have something a little more cost effective. But...they sound great and last pretty long, in fact I find that I leave them on twice as long as others that I've tried on the same instrument. I've not tried them on a Fender.
My main is a Sadowsky MV5 with single coils. The black label are a good even sounding string. I wouldn't say that they are scooped in the mids but they do not emphasize that range. They lean toward high tension, at least that's my interpretation, and are very well behaved, some might say naturally compressed. In contrast the blue label are a more average tension and have more midrange. I can go either way, although I would imagine that blue label would appeal to a wider audience, and they are the string that comes stock on new (main line) Sadowsky basses. The stainless versions of both exhibit similar characteristics to the nickels but add in the stainless flavor. I typically go stainless when I put on Black labels.
