Sadowsky Outboard pre/DI

Old guy here with a question. I have been playing bass for a long time. Country, jazz, blues, swing... You name it. My two main basses are a '74 P and a newer MIA Jazz Standard. I love both these basses, but am starting to play more funk and latin these days and am wanting a bit more modern sound. I have considered the Carvin SB5000, the Lakland 55-01 and other options. I really like the way the Carvin sounds on YouTube and like that you can switch the active off when doing more old school. My questions is, can I get the modern active tone by using my existing basses with the Sadowsky Outboard preamp? (Would keep me from making my wife mad from buying a new bass.) Also are there any more preamp options I might need to consider?

I know this has been beat to death, but when I search the past posts I am not able to find the answer I am looking for.

IMO, the Sadowsky pre will make the Jazz sound thick. I think it really helps a Jazz. The P, not as much. The Lakland has mid control built in to to the pre on the bass. The Sadowsky is only boost on bass and treble at a specific frequency if I'm not mistaken.

Yes, the Sadowsky is boost only.
For his intended use, "make my passive bass sound more modern," a touch of bass, and a bit more of treble works pretty well.

I used to own one. In the end, I sold all the pedals (EBS compressor) and settled on a SWR Marcus Miller pre.

It has an EQ that's more precise than the Sadowsky+compressor, bass intensifier, aural enhancer, boost only for solos etc.
