Sadowsky`s pup options

Hey there,
years ago Sadowsky used to have EMG and Bartolini pups as a "J" option. I was wondering if you guys have some experience with `em and could tell/explain/describe how the EMG and Bartolini sound on this basses vs. the original... just curious!

If I recall the Bart equipped Sadowsky 5 I played sounded good, but sounded like a bass with Barts in it!!! Sorry, but I kinda know what to expect when I play a bass with Barts in it. They always sound good, usually stinkin' great, but they sound like Barts.

EMG's sounded real nice when combined with the Sadowsky pre-amp IMO. They really warmed up the pick-ups.

I wish I could provide more detailed info tone wise vs stock pick-ups. The stock pick-ups sound like real real good single coils (Fender-ie if you will).

I'm actually gonna drop in a set of EMG's into my 5 for awhile just for a change when my Metro gets here. I'll be sure to post something when I do.

I've played a few basses with both pickup in it.

I've played a Standard 5 with Bart J with the Sadowsky preamp. As MikeBass stated, it sounded like BArts. As compared to Sadowsky Humcancelling J's, the Barts were darker sounding.

I put EMG's in my Trans blue Vintage 4. The bass sounded great. It had alittle more of an aggressive sound when compared to the Sadowsky Hum Cancellers but something was missing so I put the original Sadowsky pu's back & I haven't looked back. I was trying to get the Vintage 4 to have the same vibe as my 24 fret 5 with EMG's but it wasen't all there.

My 24 fret with EMG's is the bass for me. It sounds totally agrressive. It sounds down right angry when you play a note. When I compared the EMG's to the new Sadowsky SoapBars, the SB's are to mello for the style of music I play. The SB are very warm & punchy & sound fantastic but the EMG's work great in Theorem 7 other projects I've played the bass in.

I saw lots of Sad with EMG in studio (Lee Sklar, Don Was, Darryl Jones, Patitucci, to name a few), back in the years and they sounded good...but now it`s mostly original ("custom" Dimarzio)! I guess `cause they sound better!?
