I am looking at getting a Sadowsky preamp pedal, and not totally sure if I need the DI function on the larger unit, but I prefer the top mounted jacks over the side jacks on the newer one.

My question is: is the circuit/tone identical between the two and the only difference are the additional features, or is there some other differences between the older preamp/DI and the newer preamp?

TIA

All I will say is, all passive tone controls are not created equal. Different pot values, different capacitors. From my experience with sadowsky preamp‘s, there is as dialed in a particularly effective way. Not the others or not but some are quite not

Or for those that want eq and tone shaping ability for their DI and a completely independent eq/volume control for their rig. I often use an active DI as the last thing on my board so that I can tailor my rig to correct (as much as possible) for the inevitably weird sound of my bass on stage, when I’m hearing the room, the subs etc…

DI equipped pedals are for those who either don't like their amp's DI or dont have a DI from their amp, or for those who no longer use an amp.

Thats my process of elimination.

OK, have you actually read the first posts? Or wrote a totally random answer based on JUST. THE. TITLE?

We didn't want to read about your process of elimination.
We didn't want to read about who you think needs outboard preamp with DI.

We just want to see the guts of an old one and the new one. Or just the old one.

Your snarky response has nothing to do with the OP, stop pretending you speak for them. Maybe stop being a pr!ck to people attempting to be helpful. I didn't charge you for my input. Im guessing english isn't your first language?

It says in the OP that the decision can't be made between DI or non-DI versions. Did you read it? It mentions nothing of photos in the OP, suck it.

Even if the guts may look different the circuit may still be the same. Obviously it would have a different circuit board to accommodate the housing.

But if the advertising claims that its the same circuit minus the DI, why would I assume that its a lie? Therefore, the rubric I would use to make my decision was stated in my previous post. If you don't NEED a DI, then why pay extra for the DI version?

I am sorry for the snarky response. OK I did mean to be a jerk (a little), but

Modern SPB-1 (DI version) and SPB-2 sound exactly the same, because it is the same circuit. But that’s not the main point.

The main thing is that new SPB-1 made in Taiwan for Warwick is 50% cheaper than SPB-1 made in USA for Roger. And made in Taiwan SBP-2 is 3 times cheaper than SPB-1 made in USA. How?

In the spirit of snarky/jerky responses: basic economies of scale, and cost cutting of componentry when able to do so without drastically affecting performance

Well, since they were made outside Sadowsky either way, and they were The Thing for many years I would love to see the guts of old and new one, to easily determine if 50% of cost optimisation can be done.

And hopefully bust some myths about magic Made in USA components ;)

Same reason why a lot of outsourced manufacturing is in Asia. Its not just labour/parts. Low/non-existent labour standards, lack of standards/quality compliance, cheaper export taxation, higher availability of workers and a reliable supply chain account for cheaper business costs. They could literally be the exact same product. Its about which employee you are willing to support, if both USA and Asian available for you to purchase.
