Sadowsky Strings

I'm wanting to give Sadowsky strings a shot. What's your opinion? If so, blue or black label? Why?

I really like the Blue Label Stainless Steel strings. The tension is less than the Blacks.
But, I really love how long they last. Either Blue or Black you are getting a quality string!!
Try a set of both to see which string works best for you!!

Both are bright. But, perhaps the Nickels??? Not sure though.
I only use the stainless steels.

Although they are made to the specific specifications made by Sadowsky and are not the same as the strings the manufacturer of the Sadowsky strings sells under their branding or any other they may manufacturer for.

I like the black nickels best, as they have brightness and sustain but in a soulful way. After that I like the blue steels, which have that steel "endless sustain" thing but with less brightness. Some people swear by the blue nickels but I found that they sounded too much like 6 month old black nickels (so if you want a very consistent "old string" sound from new strings they're actually pretty awesome. I don't.)

Depends what you want, and to some extent how hard the wood on your bass is. When in doubt, I put black nickels on...

My only experience with Sadowsky strings was with the Blue Label stainless steels that my MV4 shipped with. Great strings, they lasted forever, and both sound and feel were excellent. The only string thus far that just might rival DR IMO.

True dat, and Lakland as well. I think that's what I was thinking of.

I ordered two sets of black label flats off of ebay. One package of strings had discolored silk, like they had been wet at some point and the G string broke while tuning up. Sadowsky would not sell a single replacement string but they did send me one free of charge!

The second package of strings were given to the friend that gave me my first bass. To my knowledge he has never strung them up so I do not know if his strings are any different. Buy from a trusted supplier.

I have no useful comparisons to make with the black label flats. They replaced cheap nickel rounds and all electronics were changed on the bass before installing the flats. They are smooth and feel rather stiff but not particularly high tension. The A string is slightly less smooth than the others. They have not bowed the neck of my cheap Kramer parts bass and did not require anything special for intonation.

I am very happy that Sadowsky replaced my broken string free of charge and can find no reason to try anything else.

Last I remember reading (on here) Labella made the black labels and R. Cocco made the blues.
