Sadowsky?

There are plenty of threads on the board regarding the NYC vs. Metro thing, but here is a summary:

* Only some Metros (the Hybrids) come with the VTC (Vintage Tone Control) standard... to me this control is a must.

To be more precise, I'd say that the NYC models have the VTC as standard whilst you may ask for a VTC to be installed in all metro models.

Kind of hard to describe, but very much the case IME. If the Sadowsky had the same tone in the mix as it does solo, I wouldn't be such a fan. Usually I can make basses sound great solo and have a harder time getting that tone to shine in the mix. The opposite is true with my Sadowsky (sounds okay solo, but great in the mix). The general tone profile is the same but becomes more full, punchy and "alive" sounding when played live. Not sure why this is the case, but I'm not arguing it.

I have to say this is hands-down the best bass I've ever played.

I think I get the jist of what you're trying to convey.

Were I to set up my bass and amp to sound perfect for soling or practicing, I'd be lost in the mix when playing with my band. Conversely, When I have my bass and amp adjusted so it sounds great with my band, there's a lot more upper midrange (finger noise, fret noise, etc.) than I like when soloing or practicing.

I may just copy your design for my Sadowsky. I really dig that especially with some Nordies. OTOH, another Tom Bowlus special may be on its way in JJ. If I get really wild and crazy I may go for AAA Flame top with Tiger Eye burst and Nordies.
