Why? Well, because the original owners who sold it to the guy who flipped it obviously didn't know what was in it. And he is now morally obligated to follow the trail back as far as it needs to go to turn the money over the original heirs even though they have no legal claim to it, that's why!

And it's his fault for not checking it out to see what was in it before he sold it. He apparently had no qualms selling it off to make a quick buck, and now he's suffering the consequences of his negligence.

Exactly. There's no "karmic justice" issue here at all, and it's silly to think that there is. He bought the safe fair and square, under the exact stipulations of the eBay sale, so what's the problem?

The only thing I would have done differently is kept my yapper shut so anonymous people on the intarwebz wouldn't think I was bamboozling the seller.

Probably drug money from a biker gang.... original owner shot, or in jail.



Anyways, the "seller" guy named "Labreque" just bought it from someone else and flipped it. He did not put the $26K in the safe. It was not his money at all.

Sorry, i wouldn't give the seller anything either. Wasn't his to begin with. And I wouldn't have said a word to anyone...I'm sure mr. Taxman will find a way to get some of it now...

Seller had two choices:

1) pay to get it open and then be stuck with a worthless piece of metal and the content
2) Sell it without knowing its content and get some money.

He now has to deal with the choice he did.
