Saffire 6 USB For Bass?

I am getting ready to buy a new computer and will need to buy an audio interface as well. I am looking at the Focusrite Saffire 6 USB. I saw it has instrument inputs. Does this mean I can record both guitar and bass into the inputs? I don't want to mic an amp I just want to go directly in. I had also looked at the Tascam FW-1884 as I record other types of music as well and thought it might be useful for my DAW. Any suggestions on other interfaces? I would like to spend less than $300 if possible and need to be able to record both guitar and bass.

It does have two Hi-Z inputs, so it'll work for guitar and bass direct.

I'd probably shy away from a USB 1.1 device like this, at least for my needs (I like more ins and outs), but if you're just doing tracking with an instrument and playback of a stereo mix, you're probably OK. And Focusrite pres are notoriously good.

Other pluses are bus-powered with USB and portable--great if you like to do recording with just a lappy.

Other suggestions:
* Lexicon Alpha or Lambda or Omega (use ASIO4ALL as a driver)--got my Omega for $100 on the bay
* Presonus AudioBox USB
* M-AUDIO Fast Track

Now the Alesis GuitarLink is about the cheapest thing that I can see that would meet your needs for an interface, but it has no monitoring capability. You probably want something with a good headphone amp, and the Lexicon definitely does, IME.
