Yes. That's just wrong, I don't care whether you're eating hot dogs or foie gras.
ask any chef, and they'll tell you learning how to properly season a food is key to any good dish.
but if anything, s&p is steeped deeply due to their cultural use. centuries of "european & western" food has been built around salt and pepper that they're unbelievably essential, i.e. just as cumin is to south asian food, fish sauce is to south east asian food, mirin is to japanese food, soy in most asian countries, etc.
back here in the US, if you go to a high end restaurant that require you wearing a jacket, you shouldnt even have to touch the s&p. the food should be seasoned exactly as the palate should receive it. chain restaurants and fast food shops in general usually overly season their food to cover up the fact that it's already rather bland, thx to much of it being freeze dried. some chain restaurants actually under season on purpose to please their customer base who actually add s&p before even touching any bit of their meal.

It's in the japanese markets. I don't know it's same. I can't read it. It's in an orange and white bottle and the company name is S&B. Bottle looks kind of like this but not. It's just salt and pepper.

I do that all the time, but then again I make all the food I eat and make it usually the same way each time. When I go out I usually try a very small piece to see if it has been seasoned to my liking before I add anything.
I remembered this thread the other day. I had this in my hand. This is the salt and pepper combo spice I was talking about. Delicious. Really good on fried rice, meat, especially steak. Pretty much everything.

French fries, potato chips taste great with salt (no I don't add salt to my chips or MacDonald's fries). I like salt on most foods, but I only add a little.
I'm one of a few people where I live that adds salt, pepper and butter to my sticky rice (I treat it like potatos). I get strange looks in restaurants when I do that.
