Samick 5 string broken knob

The bass I have recently acquired, a Samick 5 string, has three different knobs, one of which is a push/pull, that I believe switches between humbucker and single coil. However, my bass only works when it's pulled out, when it's pushed back in, it mutes the guitar. I'm not sure if it's supposed to mute it, or not, any insight would be much appreciated!

Look up the specs on the bass you have and see how it's supposed to work. Until you know that, you won't know where to start.

Does it require a battery?
Mine has 9v battery compartment for active/passive modes.

If the push/pull is active/passive and the battery is dead or missing, there you go.
