I acquired a 4 string version a few years back and it's been great workhorse for home recordings. It was only until a few days ago that I actually learned what model it is.

I tried going to greg bennett's site and was going to contact them about it, but their form has been "currently unavailable" for the few days now. :confused:

Does anyone know anything about them? I'm mainly interested what the body's made out of as well as what years they spanned. It doesn't appear to have a serial number on it that I can find.

It's also really hard to tell if the pattern on the front and back is printed. I've never seen a wood pattern like that before, so most likely it's gotta be something else?

I did find a pic of a 5 string and the bridge was shiny gold chrome instead of matted (whatever you call is) as well as small fret markers instead of huge.

I would much prefer it if that guitar strap was back on the animal it came from.

Well, the figuring looks similar between the two basses, but from the camera angles, I can't tell if it's a genuine, stained quilted maple or something like that. The way the light reflects off it lends credence to your idea that it may be printed.

And "matte" or flat metal is generally called "brushed" or "satin," because a coarse material (often a brush or steel wool) is used to buff-out the shine.

Thanks for the responses so far. I found samick's own site has a contact form for guitars/basses and greg bennett's is still down (?).

Brushed: got it!

The pattern on the 4 and 5 string look different so that makes me think it's less likely printed. I've looked real real close in different light and just can't tell! Hopefully they'll reply and know what it is.

I found an ad for another 4 string: Invalid Link Removed You'll have to click on "View inactive advertisement." The pattern looks different so it's prolly not printed. I've never seen that kind of top before???

And about the strap, it was given to me. It's definitely printed, so no harm to snakes!! I just haven't gotten a replacement strap for it yet because this one's not worn out. I wouldn't buy a strap like that myslef, lol!
