Im playing it right now in fact. It sounds fantastic ! Very articulate with this preamp/pickup combo. It’s active/passive and so far I definitely prefer the tone sculpting I can get with the preamp on.Really interested in hearing about how you like the HS pickup configuration. Let me know
It can get very growly which is a good thing for me or I can back off and get a little more vintage if I roll off some treble. I think this bass is definitely more modern sounding and designed to be in a good way. I really dig the Sandberg black label pickups.
Only issue I have with it, is it arrived with a few more bumps and bruises (it’s used) than the store disclosed. Not a deal breaker as I really like the tones. I’m hoping they’ll knock a little more off the price for me after sending them pictures. Nothing too serious but I probably would have offered a lower price had I known it had a few more than I was expecting.
Anyhow, right now I’m playing with the blend slightly rolled toward the neck (just barely) with both coils active on the “MM” pickup and really like the tone. It’s very detailed and precise/thick with boosting the bass just a touch and mids.
I did coil tap the MM pickup to single coil and got some really nice tones out of it also. So far, I’m digging it !
Additionally I soloed the MM pickup. It’s similar to a Stingray but closer to the bridge so definitely not the same tone. It will get you in the territory, but if you want a stingray tone buy a stingray. I didn’t buy this bass hoping for that tone. This layout is more similar to the Lakland 55-94’s I’ve owned.
Also, it’s the first bass I’ve had with a zero fret and I like how even it makes all of the notes sound.
Also, I really like the neck profile. Similar to a MM Stingray Special, possibly a little thinner front to back ? Very comfy for me.
It sort of gets in to my Spector territory.
