Sandberg Basic or Terra..which nails it?

Of course the Music Man tone is as allusive as a unicorn in a field of 4 leaf clovers, but I would be willing to find a suitable substitute. Seeing as how I have an affinity for the Sandberg product, I wonder what the consensus was regarding this question.

Now truthfully, I prefer the Pre-Ernie Ball sound, but I am sure that would be a stretch to ask for that tone specifically, so I will take what I can get.

Looks like the Terrabass has the pickup closer to the original MM "Sweet spot", but I could be wrong.

Anyone have an answer?

Original sweetspot, Good MM-copy (ie Nordstrand) pickup and the '78-copy pre and you're there.

All good points, but I'm looking for a choice between the two mentioned for a reason. Thanks for the input!

The Terra was originally designed to be tuned BEAD.

But why do you want a Sandberg if you're looking for the MM sound? I don't get it.

I understand your questioning. I often say the same "if you like the sound of ____ then purchase a _____". There are issues regarding the Ernie Ball company that I cannot support (nor will I post online), and I am a big fan of the Sandberg product. I do alot of drop tuning anyway; normally as low as C# on my four string instruments using either a .95 or .100 gauge string. So as you see, a Terra is in my sights for a reason. I am also not daring enough to walk around with a Pre-EBMM in some of the venues I play.

Terra is in my oppinion the most growly of the two, but as your probably know it comes down to the player when looking at tone.. Theres the basic Ken Taylor which is a kickass bass, just imo not as growly

Ps. Get the preamp and put it behind the Delano pickup!! (and post soundclips if you do! - Always wanted to hear that combo, but my Sandberg is a PJ)

btw they use Sandberg powerbucker not Delano for the basic model.

My understanding is that it is available in 34" and 35".
