Sandberg owners!! Where are you?

I've played several Sandberg models but not the one pictured but each one that I did play played well and sounded very nice,I'm even thinking about getting one.
I own a Basic 5, essentially their version of the Fender P crossed with a Stingray. I _love_ it 
It it amazing value for money when you consider I was able to choose just about all the details. Woods, paint, electronics, pickups, pickguard... At this price point (1000-1400 euro) thats something few companies deliver. On top of that it sounds amazing, part in thanks to the Glockenklang preamps they use. A friend of mine has the California P (essentially a P-bass with a 3D-bridge and a Glock preamp) and he's been cured of his GAS for two years now (which is really special )

It´s a custom made 5-string California JM with alder body and maple neck and FB. The features and specs are similar to the standard JM model, except for the custom inlay and slightly narrower neck.
I got it last May and I´m still madly in love with it! It has everything I want and then some: in passive mode, bridge humbucker split, it really nails that classic J tone. The Glock pre is incredibly transparent and quiet, it doesn´t alter the basic sound of he bass, just "turbocharges" it perfectly. And the MM humbucker of course brings in even more tonal options.
The playability leaves nothing to be desired, the neck feels and plays great and the flat-radius fretboard is just wonderful. The B string is tight and articulate, and the whole bass feels extremely sturdy and trustworthy - sort of reminds me of some G&L:s I´ve played. I can really dig in with this bass and it still feels responsive and controlled.
And the looks... beauty is in the eye of the beholder but personally I can safely say the Sandberg is easily the most beautiful bass I have ever owned. The high-gloss finish is abolutely flawless and the blueburst paintjob lets the alder grain show through just perfectly.
I paid 1400 euros for this bass and while that´s a lot of money, I feel it´s a great deal considering the quality. It is actually couple of hundred cheaper than a 5-string MIA Deluxe Fender Jazz and I dare say my Sandberg blows that - or just about any factory-made Fender - out of the water.
I know this sounds like a sales pitch, but I strongly urge anyone looking for a Fender style bass to give Sandberg a try, especially here in Europe. You can find off-the-shelf models for as low as 1100 euros, that´s the price of a Standard MIA Fender. Now I know many people want "the real thing" and I´m perfectly OK with that. But if you don´t care what it says in the headstock...
EDIT: And oh yeah, Sandberg´s original, non Fender-derived designs are very good too. I´ve tried the single-humbucker Basic model and I thought it had a nice StingRay vibe. The Ken Taylor model looks interesting too.

Sandberg uses Glockenklang electronics? I thought they used Noll elektronik ones ( Invalid Link Removed ). But maybe i am wrong...
getting one soon. tried it in teh shop and loved itI own a California PM-5 and totally love it! "Coolhat" sums it up perfectly, these basses are really good.
The combination between the MM/P is very good if you like the "P"-wibe with a modern touch. In passive mode it comes close to both a "p" and "MM" when you solo one of them. It's great to have a meaty "P" tone and still have a good growly "MM" tone in one bass.
Playability is exellent, the fretwork is almost as good as on my US Lakland 55-94, i didn't expect that at this price. The string balance is also very good and the B blends in perfectly. The B has meaty and solid tone that will keep me more than happy.
If you get a chance, try one! They are truly exellent instruments.

I played one of the PM's in a shop, and it didn't sound like a P-Bass at all. That was a big let-down.
It didn't sound bad, just not like a P. It's more of a modern and gritty tone. Awesome playability though.

Low Down Sound in Detroit (www.lowdownsound.com) just picked them up.
They should have a few in in the next week or so.
I know they are getting a J/MM 5 and a P/MM as well.

Coolhat, the other boys are right - that is indeed one great looking bass! I'm looking at getting a 5-string Jazz myself...maybe I should check out some Sandbergs.

The total cost was 1400 euros, roughly $1800. Off-the-shelf-models go for about 1100-1200 euros ($1400-$1550), quite reasonable IMO, considering that standard MIA Fenders cost about the same over here.
I checked out the price list on their website (Invalid Link Removed, They don´t have 6-string as an option for their California models (=Fender style basses). But they do have 6- and even 7-string options for some other models so perhaps they can make a custom J sixer too.Jay Terrien said:
