Sandberg TM4, fender flea active or stingray special??

In my experience the TM sounds a lot like a jazz. If it can help I made this video with a TT and Stingray Special (didn’t use the eq on the Sandberg though) :

I would like to add that both basses are, together with Yamaha BBP’s, the best feeeling and sounding basses I know. You can’t go wrong with either. Have not tried the flea active.

Thank you very much for your POV and for the demo much appreciated. So you are saying the TM4 is sounding like jazz bass? Little bit mid scooped? Or the MM pickup made some adjustment and made slightly different character?

You live in Japan and if I were you, I would just get the Bomber bass from Tune's Phoenix series

Thank you, i know several local brand like sago, atelier z, moon, history etc. ..also i have several mij bass.
Let me check first whether it will filled my GAS or not hehehe…

I would describe the TM’s I have tried with both pickups on as a variation on the jazz bass sound more than a MM type sound. The TM bridge pickup soloed sound nothing like a MM bass. As a side note, I prefer the new MM basses to the older ones.

I cant speak about the Sandberg, but I have tried a Stingray Special and the Fender Flea Active Jazz.
I too have a stingray classic 2010 and a stingray sterling QM.
I found the stingray special fabulous- a beautiful bass to play, but for one thing - the neck is abut too chunky for me - a Stingray special SLO would be ideal for me, but are unobtainable. EBMM stopped making them a few years ago.
The Fender Flea active is the best solution for me - not quite as "clanky" as a full-on Stringray but close. - The neck is 41mm at the nut which is close enough to a jazz bass width for me, and it is *so* slinky. i also like the contouring the fender has got that my stringray classic hasnt, and the Fender is lighter too. lots of other little details like schaller strap compatible pegs as standard and the high quality "made in USA" finish on it as well.

So yeah, Ive got the Fender Flea active and will be selling my Stingrays as this covers the same territory.
My Warwick Thumb is still my #1 goto bass - but they are out of fashion at the moment.

If I wanted a Jazz with a modern twist, I would get the TM4. If I wanted want a Stingray, then a Stingray Special. If I wanted a bass that felt a lot like a Jazz ergonomically but sounded a lot like a Stingray, then a Flea active Fender.
