Ever give a paradriver a shot? That's what got me to sell my old SABDDI.

edit: never mind I read more comments and got the answer to this question. Maybe try the newer SABDDI with the mid knob?

On a whim, I got a preamp pedal called Demon F/X off ebay..Its a Darkglass clone and I found that I really like it. I use it all the time.

10+ year BDDI user. It's old technology, plain and simple. There is so much more out there. I switched to a Tonex a few months ago and loving it so far.

I never could find a preamp/di that did everything I wanted, so I now approximate it with pairing the overdrive from the Pork and Pickle with the EQ/DI of the MXR Bass Preamp.

I fee ya. I was doing that for a little while with my YYZ and a Boss 7-band EQ pedal. When I got the YYZ where I wanted it, it always did better with a one tic bump in the 100hz range.

I just want something "ampy" that doesn't go too far and has a DI. Like I said, something that just helps lose the hyper-sterile solid state. Maybe I should give that Sonicake B-factory a try. I'm not feeling flush enough to go Super Vintage right now.

Ok, good people. I saw a deal on the Super Vintage and bought it. Buy once cry once, right? Or I have also heard: buy it nice or buy it twice. This pedal has intrigued me ever since I first saw it on youtube. I think it's exactly what I want.

The good news is, if it isn't what you want, you should be able to get most/all of your money back. So the investment isn't sunk in the event your impressions are mistaken for some reason.

But, based on what you've said, this should be a good buy for you!

I might even be able to leave it on full time, even when I switch on the YYZ or the Aftershock. I swear the BDDI cut the exact frequencies used by my YYZ. It's like it wasn't even on.

Got to chime in here: I've used the Sansamp BDDI V.1 forever, always on, and now have the much better (IMO) v.2. The ticket is a DSM Omnicabsim Deluxe tweakable cab sim - adds no grit or drive, but fine tunes the 'cab sim' function of the BDDI. My 'big rig' is a sort of FRFR cab, Wayne Jones Powered 2X10, which is magic but doesn't have the feel I am accustomed to, playing since the 70's.

I’ve tried many DI/preamps like the Tonehammer and the Origin Super Vintage. With the blend at 40%, I still find the BDDI the absolute best after all these years. I also find the earlier version easier to dial in for my sound than the v2 (go figure). Set the bass and treble to 10 o’clock, and you’ve got an amazing tone. I’ve now also bought the programmable version for the ultimate live setup. Add an overdrive pedal with a blend function, and you’ve got a killer live lineup. Sounds great in the IEM and FOH.

That's exactly how I run mine. Although I didn't have the courage to run the blend under 50/50. In any case the super vintage arrives today, so... I'll be able to compare.

The SV is a great preamp pedal, but the DI out sound was unusable for me (I play ampless). I placed it in front of a DI box so I could use the ‘amp out’ EQ, and it sounded really good that way. However, I ended up going back to the Sansamp BDDI for live use. Reliable Plug & play.
