SansAmp Owners What Else Do You Run

I play songs from various artists, anyone from Rush and Tom Petty, to artists like Dave Matthews. I currently only use a Sansamp BDDI which is awesome but I am looking to for someone to possibly to enhance or improve the clarity of notes. Also just want to see what else fellow bassists are running with a SansAmp.

For clarity the MXR M80 Preamp/DI is a winner IMO.

But I still prefer the SABDDI, because of the warmer drive it gives. Edit: I (also) use it by itself.

I would say that clarity of notes and the SansAmp are opposites.

I have successfully used the SansAmp to tame an overly aggressive pedal.

Soon enough it'll be

Sansamp->Peavey Kosmos V2-> GK 1001RB-II

I just liek the clarity and tube drive the sansamps gives. Great for some edgey rock tones.

I'm thinking of picking up a Tech 21 VT Bass pedal too. I love the Bass Driver, but it's hard to get certain tones out of it.

The VT is a killer pedal. It will do what the BDDI will do (Minus the DI function) and more, plus it's cheaper.

In terms of added clarity, an EQ might be your best option. You can add some of the mids that the BDDI scooped out, although I think that those scooped mids in the 900hz range are sort of the point of the BDDI.

i agree 100%. i keep my bddi in its own (parallel) loop with most of the treble cut so i can stack another effect on top without losing any low end.

i cant for the life of me use a pick, and i dont go for brand new strings all that often, but that has to be your best bet as far as clarity is concerned. that is not something i have ever looked for in that pedal, just that warm, smooth tones that it does quite well.

my only gripe is that the bypass isnt that great and i get some noise (not a ton, but i notice it).

im not trying to criticize you, but it seems like there would be better choices for an overdrive with lots of clarity.

as stated above, i run three parallel channels. the bddi gets its own. the octavius sqeezer gets its own. the last one gets a murf, ps3, and zvex machine. some of the wild, synthy sounds can lose the low end, so the bddi is what i rely on for that.

Is your bass clear - you can't really fix a muddy bass... more boxes normally add to the muddiness.

If you want clarity try the Para. I used to run it directly into a QSC (as well as to the FOH) with nothing else. It sounded pretty darn good. I now carry it in case I have a unfortunate event with my amp.

I don't think that you really need anything else with it!

Go easy on the blend pot (50% MAX) and on the bass pot.

I really like the VT Bass. Give me everything I need and then some. I have a friend that bought a VT Bass to gut it and figure out what he could mod on it. Changed a few things (he won't tell me what), re-housed it in a larger box (thickness remained the same) and added an XLR out. I haven't tried it yet. He sent me some sound clips using my equipment...EVERYTHING minus my VT Bass. Then sent me clips using my VT Bass. I have to say that I am going to somehow steal it from him...SOON! That thing freakin' rocks!!! Where am I going with this...don't know. I had to brag. But if things go well, and I am able to have him produce more of these, I'll be posting them on the TB classifieds! ;o)~

BTW-I'm sure some will find that the order in which I have these pedals setup may be wrong. I don't mind the critique. You won't hurt my feelings.

Since I play a cheap passive Ibanez right now I would say it is quite muddy almost like it has a chorusy sound to it. Soon it will be an Fender American Jazz!

Bass > BBE OptoStomp > SanAmp RPM > Crest CA-6 > Acme B-4.

Just traded off my RBI for the RPM. The sweepable mids are a definite advantage for adding clarity. I dump a little bit in the 400-500 hz region; it really cleans things up without removing ooomph.
